Mazda BT 50 | Camshaft code on Mazda

This is a story about the power of using a scope and how I went about to diagnose a problem on a 2006 Mazda BT 50 Diesel. I was asked to have a look at this car that had a camshaft code P0340. Now, this car had three camshaft sensors replaced (two aftermarket sensors and one original sensor), but the ECM light would come on about once a week with the same code.

It would have been harder to diagnose if an extra wiggle of the wiring wasn't performed.

Most cars have a diagnostic mode you can put them into so that a trouble code will be set at the first instance of a intermittent fault, instead of their usual two to six instances being required to set the code.

Then it's easy to see what bit of wire it is that needs wiggling to induce the fault. no scope needed.

Not that there is anything wrong with using a scope. excellent things. if you have one. which a lot of people don't.

It's good to see that you are still educating yourself Intrade, even if it is only youtube.
You've come a long way from the times when you used to say that all that electronic crap was crap and designed to make cars unfixable and that it should all be ripped off and the cars converted to carby and distributor or manual diesel pump.
