Does a Mazda 323 have a cam belt or chain. It's a 2003 1.6 ltr

2003 did they still make a 323 then?
To answer your question any propper mechanic would be able to tell . usually a plastic cover covers a cam belt .
the one your selling?
look where the yellow dipstick is belts pully is there a plastic cover down that side with bolts?

No plastic cover just belts over aircon and alternator, We were told when we brought it that it had a chain.

It has a timing belt.

so the whole side of the engine looks solid aluminium no cover where the belts are the cover would go down behind the big crank pulley who drives all belts if it had a cover - no cover= chain .
thats the engine number from carjam of your listing
ZM 670125

look at this immage .
The belt cut hose you see the yellow part. Behind is a black cover that would be the timing belt cover. Does your engine not have this but is solid aluminium where that black cover is?
