From recent reports Shell is divesting itself from oil production in the coming years and when the big oil companies are starting to take their effects on our climate seriously it's hard to argue against that science. https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/energy-environment/2021/02/11/391246/oil-major-shell-says-it-hit-peak-oil-production-in-2019-and-will-speed-up-move-to-net-zero-emissions-products/

I would suggest we have around another 500 years of fossil fuel and by the time that is used up, JC would have returned and the world won't need cars.
A new Zealander using coal or fossil fuels won't even scratch the surface of a world warming all by itself. but yet despite the billons of tons of hypocrisy used building america cup boats, 5000 square meter houses for an old couple to live in, shipping crap back and forth from China and wasteful air travel and trillions of tons of dirt shifted by diesel powered machines to find lithium for doppleheads to drive EV's - the world will keep its dictatorships and greed.

I've often written that we need to move to a sustainable system of energy supply while oil is still cheap enough to enable us to do so. Meanwhile, China continues to build hundreds of new coal fired power stations.

Are New Zealanders magically different from people from other countries using coal or fossil fuels? The world's population is made up of individuals you know.

harm_less, Feb 14, 5:57pm
And while we are playing the blame game the rest of the world, including NZ, are rampantly buying goods manufactured in China thereby driving the demands of coal powered electricity consumption in China.

Remember when globalisation was the next big thing? Now the same people are promoting 'the great reset', where you will own nothing, will have no privacy, but you will be happy. Meanwhile, the mega-rich will get to own the world's resources and live a hedonistic lifestyle.

yes we are, our only fault is increasingly we are becoming sheep and forgetting we are leaders in every field, as this is a motor thread, lets look at that, we punch miles above the rest of the world by population in motorsport and motorsport engineering, most of the boffins in NASA were kiwi's, most of the leading development race teams are kiwi including europe, USA and the UK, we were building faster racecars in back yards than the factory teams and the proof was in the pudding both in rally and circuit cars. So don't try and pull the wool over the eyes of the true blue kiwi. (don't count the sheep, scientists or the bureaucrats, they do trendy shit thats not worth a pinch of salt).

what carbon emissions? why should he leave? or are doing the holier that thou bit?

paul861, Feb 15, 11:13am
agreed , these turkeys in govt are hell bent on limiting nzs innovation with bureaucracy and silly rules.no 8 wire is a real thing.
also in my experience scientists are notoirious for thinking inside the box ,and working for and proving the ideals of whoever is paying their wage

That sure makes a mockery of this government's 'no new fossil fuel exploration' stance. Will we be importing the coal too?

Don’t worry, I know a lot of people who would love to post what they REALLY think of the TM admin- but don’t want to be banned!
