Engine not running in the above vehicle, the engine turns over when trying to start it, but won't fire, like there is very little compression there, your thoughts please.

If the cam is turning hold your foot flat down on the gas peddle and crank for a while se if it fires. call the AA

Does it have spark? Is fuel going in? You can check the spark plugs and take off the air intake boot and spray a bit of ether or petrol in there, but be careful though as it can catch on fire if it backfires down the intake. I once had a similar problem with a 4G63 DOHC galant. It needed 4 new spark plugs, but it caught on fire when I was diagnosing it. I had a fire extinguisher handy which was lucky.
