2L model. Of course well maintained etc but design wise for the engine and auto trans (it is not CVT) and longevity and they pretty good or not so good? Thirsty? Any ideas welcome.

They are a good/solid vehicle. Very reliable-same drive train as the Axella/atenza 2.0l The make/break will be if you NEED 7 seats. If you do then the middle seat in the premacy will be its downfall for you.

Ok thanks! So I take it it does not have the Ford running gear in it? Eg is it a Mazda engine?

Its a Mazda engine that Ford also builds and uses in it's own product, yes. If I was looking to carry more than 5 people including driver on a regular basis I would consider a Toyota Estima instead . they're not overly commodious inside.
