Cars that are never seen any more.

Definitely not. You do still very occasionally see the odd survivor pop up on here, but they're mostly all consigned to the rubbish heap where they rightly belong.

It wouldn't be much fun or cheap trying to keep one running and roadworthy these days. Theyve just gone. what's still available out of the UK or Germany I don't know. Getting Mk4 and 5 Cortina bits is relatively easy.

Living in the Mainland now some of the cars listed above are reasonably common. There are Subaru Leones, Honda Citys, Barinas etc still being used as daily drivers around here. The place is overrun with Minis.

Can't count Leyland P76 as they have a popular owner's club, sad as that is.

My Mother had a 1986 NZ new three door Accord. Actually a very good (if gutless auto) car. Have not seen one for years.

Calibra is another. Also Ford Probe. Alfa 33 Sportwagon?

I was thinking of the unloved cars, just like the Montego mentioned above. Once in the UK they were everywhere, yet now there is around 50 left registered there.

Does the Hillman Imp qualify and can we mention the Austin Princess with the "O"(dear) series engine? I was an apprentice at a BMC outlet when the "O" series engine came out. They had this thing called a "cam belt" that was so innovative. You almost had to go to Britain to learn how to change one of these "cam belts". How times have changed!

Early 90's Mazda Sentia (929, MS9). yes they had three names.

Pontiac LeMans

In reality a Daewoo. Horrible but popular here in the late 80s.

It is sensible if you own one of those to acquire a few more for spare parts. People still own those vehicles because they actually like them and their US flavour, Taurus seats are amongst the most comfortable around.

We'd been doing cambelts on Cortinas and CF Bedfords for years before the O. I tried to set the tappets on an O series, cause you always did, and got a hell of a fright when I found the tappet cover was holding the cam in !

Yes well, regarding the P76, it is a matter of opinion as I said. There are those who absolutely love them and others who loathe them to bits haha!

2sheddies, Jun 20, 4:46pm
That's what's great about the early GM stuff also. They're an easy vehicle to maintain even today, or restore, such is the vast availability of new aftermarket parts.

franc123, Jun 20, 4:47pm
By golly there's trouble if you criticise the P76 in front of the wrong people, same with the MGF. they all seem oblivious that the P76 buggered Leyland Australia and was thumped in the marketplace by Holden, Falcon and Valiant. It had good points but not many.

Lol yes that was a real WTF moment, been there myself on a Montego wagon I think it was.

Check out the total Vauxhall Viva stats. They've become real popular since 2015.

Same can't be said about the Chevette, or Austin Maxi. There's a couple of 'no mores' for you. I've heard it said though that the Maxi was the original hatchback, a concept that the Japs ran with after that. A work colleague described his Maxi's 6 speed box as "like stirring custard with a tennis racquet".

I think Renault 16 1965- was first hatchback

Have not seen an R12 for eons, used to be popular

Best thing about them was ripping out the running gear and using it for a MK 1 Escort. I loved the first one that I did.

Vauxhall Victor/Vertora 2.0 and 3.3. Thought when I was a kid they where the best looking car out there, they were everywhere.

I had a 1984 Nissan Leopard TRX 2 dr. Loved that car.
Rust got it in the finish, the firewall just got measles & turned into a sheet of rust. There were 2 others down here, one rusted out i guess, a Bluff owner, the Quéenstown one went up the back of another car I think.
Im not sure what one would be worth now, since it would be the only one i guess you could name your price.
I had a 2 litre 4 dr one for parts in Chch too. Gone now.
But yeah, find the most expensive Skyline & match its price.
Sitting in the back seat was just luxury. Plenty of space & comfortable & you just sunk into the seat & it held you. Almost as good as driving it.

Yip. Fond memories of friends Dad who had a Victa 3.3 with four-on-the-floor in the early 70s. Always wanted one but have never had one. Same with Triumph 2.5s. Dime a dozen in the 70s.

happychappy50, Jun 21, 12:32am
It’s a wonder no one has mentioned a Skoda, popular as anything in the 70s along with ladas, remember Jowett javelin from the 50s

sandypheet, Jun 21, 1:49am
Isuzu Piassa (sp)

laurelanne, Jun 21, 1:50am
When jap imports first started, the roads were full of 240Zs and RX7s. They have disappeared now.

tamarillo, Jun 21, 2:26am
Nah they’re tucked up warm with loving owners , being restored, raced.

martin11, Jun 21, 3:46am
