Cars that are never seen any more.

DAF 33.
Car of low value even in its day.
My friend owned one, needed drive belts changed.
Easiest solution was to roll it onto its roof to get at it.
Rubbish car.

Triumph 2.5s are STILL everywhere. I'd argue there's more of these around today than pretty much ANY other car of its age, from any country. One example of the Brits getting it right, they just run and run, easy to maintain and don't rust too badly.

I havent seen a Leyland P76 for quite a while. I always thought it looked like they had used different designers for the front and rear.

muzz67, Jun 21, 5:33am
Mk 3 Cortina's? Used to be common as Corollas.

amasser, Jun 21, 5:40am
Went to 5 Marks, like Escorts(4?)? Both cars manufactured for many years but seldom seen now.

muzz67, Jun 21, 5:44am
Still see 1,2 4 and 5 here, not 3 for years.

kestrel43, Jun 21, 7:28am
Really? Everywhere?

franc123, Jun 21, 7:37am
Yes agree. A fair proportion of what you do see of them on the road still look to be in at least semi regular general transport use, they're not just weekend toys or for going to shows and that's it.

Marina Van. I miss her.

Not surprised. The Mk 3 wasn't one of Ford's better efforts. I had a 2 litre from new which was simply a horrible car, although nothing could be as bad as the 1.3 which a friend had as a work car. The 4 speed box was like a 5 speed with 3rd missing, leaving a huge gap between 2nd and 3rd. The under size drum brakes barely worked, but because they were Fords and cheap, a lot were sold as fleet vehicles.

Nelson has largest collection of Jowetts IN THE WORLD - and on display.

feels true - see MK2 and Mk4's arund here run by enthusiasts, but where are the MK3's? Arguably the nicest looking.

Yep, see a couple around frequently.

The Piazza as mentioned are gone. Horridly unreliable cars 25 years ago. A tarted up Gemini.

I was not thinking of the cars that are tucked away (like RX7, thousands of them exist), more so cars that had no friends and are just extinct.

Alfa Romeo Arna is a good example. A bad Nissan with a badly integrated Alfasud engine.

Anyone remember the Hino Contessa? Before Hino got into trucks, there was this thing. Knew of a bloke who had one and one night while driving in bad wind, the Contessa was blown off the road into a tree lol!

A fitter turner mate used a Hino Contessa for several years to get to work & back. He liked it and it never let him down.

I remember a Toyota 2000GT here in Christchurch years ago, early 70s.

Haven't seen a Mitsubishi Cordia for quite a while.

apollo11, Jun 21, 12:23pm
The occasional Celeste and Starion shows up on TM though.

I grew up in the 1940s and '50s (Taranaki) and remember we had a Singer. Uncle Bert had a Chev, Mum had a Morris 8. A bit later, we had a Bradford van. I think my father had another car or two but don't recall the makes. Can anyone remind me of car makes back then? The names just might remind me.

peanuts37, Jun 21, 12:36pm
Worked with a guy who bought a new one in the 80s, never drove it hard, blew 2 turbos in the first 2 years then the floor started to rot out. Was only 5 years old when condemned to the scrap heap.

dublo, Jun 21, 12:37pm
They sold more Triumph 2000s and 2500s per head of population here than anywhere else in the world - young (and retired) executives' sports saloons like the Rover P6 2000 and 3500 but simpler design and more interior room, and still very pleasant to drive - automatics for town and around and manual with overdrive for the open road! Good, unmolested low- km ones still turn up on Trade Me!

tgray, Jun 21, 12:41pm
Yes. I saw a MK3 GT the other day. I almost got wiplash gaping at it.
