Thanks Marte, just not sure where I would of sourced Phosphoric acid
way down here in a small town & daresay a bit more risky re health & disposal. Have tank filled with white vinegar so couple of days and should know how successful it has been . Many thanks to everyone for advice.

There's a plant nursery in Invercargill that has it. Though it's a big shop with hydroponics & pet supplies too.
I think now that it was $10 for 500 mls.

It will remove rust, I first used to to remove rust specks & grit off Stainless steel ( I used the angle grinder too close to some Stainless frames & a week later they were covered in rust patches & specks )
It did a amazing job.
At home I used it for similar jobs & used it to clean some stained Stainless steel pots. It bought it back to new condition, some heat helped.
With heat it's got a slightly fowl smell to it, but it works !

Also, a drop of it in a teaspoon of water & tasted, tastes just like the tangy taste of Coca-Cola.
For disposal? Just pour it down the drain, it's food grade, just like vinegar.
I would use it straight in the tank, then once its done it's job, add water & pour it out, then rinse twice, neutralize with baking soda/water & two rinses & two of Meths. Let Dry.

Long term. Use a motorcycle tank liner product.
It's a 2 pack prep liquid. Por-10 or similar.

Im interested to hear what the vinegar does. Iron acetate is water soluble.
