My 5A ctek is passively cooled, and gets really hot (uncomfortable to hold on the underside). Think it is normal.

They get hot as they are passing a fair amount of current. What amperage is it?

My old [very very old] charger will get hot if the battery its trying to bring up is partially faulty & resisting. Otherwise it gets quite warm until charged then backs off to cold when battery is fully charged--which is what it is mean't to do. Poor old thing is crumbling in the plastic & have to be careful picking it up, 6 & 12 volt. Have another two warehouse type cheapies that also work in the same way, & work good. Oh & forgot my ex HP printer [or something like that] power pack i sometimes use, 14.5 volts, works great. Using it to charge my battery drill but works on the car or bike too.
