Battery relocate

pbsrb5, Jan 7, 3:10pm
Hi all,

Im currently having a 1980 Ford restored.

It is a South African import and has never been registered here.

The plan is to restore to OE specs as much as possible, but one thing I would like to be able to do is relocate the battery from the engine bay to the boot.

It has had a lot of rust repaired and this has been checked by a certifier but i am keen to find out if the battery relocate is allowable or will it mean I will have to go through Low volume certification?

If anyone has experience of this I would be keen to here.

Thanks

Might be a lot less painfull to leave it where it is to comply it then move it later.

Don't do anything at all until its complied. It really REALLY isn't worth the drama.
PS--this isn't a generic reply but a reply to your specific issue.

Once you have got it complied move the battery to the boot if you want.

Mount it good and solid and put it in a vented marine box.

And run the fattest leads you can get, particularly for the positive (+) lead to compensate for the distance from the battery to starter.

2/0 OFC welding cable.

I used a battery cable from an old Mini. They always had the battery in the boot. But agree with above, get the compliance done first.

Suggest marine grade anchor winch cable, multi strand supper flexible. batteries in boats are located in the back of boat so it a common and easy solved problem

Not very far from the engine.
