Got told there are 3 kinds of 8-cyl motors .

First there's the straight 8, for long-legged cruising power, then there's the V8 for sheer grunt and torque, and then there's the Urin8, for piddling around town .

If it has pushrods they are all the same. same as the last one! lol

ginga4lyfe, Nov 16, 5:29am
Too bad this isnt a 8 Clylinder Buick, But 8's do sound good, i just love the sound of this engine http://www.youtube.com/user/bloodreighn!feature=mhee#p/f/77/LoEnnUKSgPY

foxdonut, Nov 16, 6:53am
The ZR1 has pushrods and laps Nurburgring faster than a Nissan GTR.

Whats your point!

hydraline, Nov 16, 10:02am
GOOK LOVER!

bae13, Nov 16, 11:29am
Seems first post tryn to take the piss! Anyway there is also the Audi/vw W8
Engine

sifty, Nov 16, 12:57pm
wouldn't mind a Guzzi V8, just quietly.

desmodave, Nov 16, 2:24pm
i wouldnt mind 1 either. You would need a bloody good ear to tune 1.

ola.thorsen, Nov 16, 4:29pm
Flat-8 as seen in Tatra, rear engined, air cooled for extra quirk

morrisman1, Nov 16, 4:38pm
sounds a bit like a Lycoming O-720

the_don_61, Nov 16, 4:50pm
Urin8!Ford Uren is a V6.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/albertsbite/3815412856/

str8 is old schoolold old

ford have two types of v8. clevo and winser (sp)

bore angles I think is main differance.

scotty20001, Nov 16, 5:14pm
it doesent have a cambelt to snap at 6000rpm either :) i would own a pushrod engine over cambelt driven quad cam heaps of shit.

stevexc, Nov 16, 5:44pm
Very happy with my pushrod Fairmont Ghia :D

foxdonut, Nov 16, 5:49pm
People who say "pushrods lol" don't actually know anything about the subject anyway, its just a ricer thing. So they don't rev as high, well what does that mean exactly!

Nothing.

You might as well say "petrol lol" or "tires lol". Its all as "old fashioned" at the end of the day.

timmo1, Nov 16, 6:04pm
All other things being equal, less revs mean less ability to make power.

Like anything, pushrod actuated valves-trains have their advantages AND drawbacks.

foxdonut, Nov 16, 6:19pm
The LSX Chev engine uses pushrods and revs to 10k.

It also has torque worth talking about, unlike a pissy little sub three litre thing revving its tits off to make "peak horsepower" for a dyno "show and tell".

timmo1, Nov 16, 6:22pm
*cough* it's also 20% more expensive than a GTR and the test was done on full slicks (compared to semi slicks on the GTR on a damp track).
What's your point!

foxdonut, Nov 16, 6:38pm
My point is its better than the GTR.

bubbles244, Nov 16, 6:39pm
wrong. a ship engine turns at 800 rpm , and yet makes 18 000 hp.

there is no substitute for cubic capacity. bigger the block, the less work to make horsepower.

thats why GM have the "if it aint broke, don't fix it attitude" with there pushrod v8.

timmo1, Nov 16, 6:46pm
Do you understand the term 'all other things being equal'!

elect70, Nov 16, 9:19pm
8000 hp with pushrods v8mmmm

elect70, Nov 16, 9:33pm
Man asks barman for a gin, barman repliesthere is 3 types of ginhydro gin , oxygin, & nitrogin , which would you like to drink sir . He replies there are 3 types of tardmustard , custard & you ya bastard

icemans1, Nov 17, 1:55am
modern technology isn't always a good thing, just saying.

ema1, Nov 17, 1:58am
Most of the Tatras were in fact air cooled V8's

dr.doolittle, Nov 17, 2:04am
There's heaps more 8's.
There's the porstr8, but thats a POS anyway. Then there's the ovul8, they can be hotted-up.
There's a castr8, but no-one wants one of those .
