I'm looking at buying a hilux surf, but it doesn't engage into low 4x4 but it does high. Sounds like the selector is jumping on the cog. Any ideas if it is that or could it be anything else

The electric motors that engage 4WD can seize and/or strip cogs in them, mainly from lack of use. Have replaced a few before.

its a 3lt petrol auto
