I keep a very tight control of my expenses, I have a speadsheet full of information going back ten years.
The figures are an average for the whole year, not a random sample.
As an example, even when towing a tandem trailer with a Falcon 500 on, the Terrano useage did not drop as badly as when I towed a similar load with a HZ Kingswood.
A few years ago, I lent the Terrano to my son and his three mates, for a road-trip to T'ga for New Year, one of them driving. Despite their ages, they got 25mpg, based on distance/fuel used.
They CAN be economical, but everything depends on the weight of the driver's foot.
