We have two midgets, they will grow, but currently fit the bill. prefer something we could fit real sized people/ carseats/booster seats in though.

If you can get a warranty from the AA for that they have come down a lot in price since I last got a quote on a Euro vehicle which was $2000 and it was and it was a petrol which is sometimes cheaper. (2005 VW Golf). That's about 25% of the cost of buying a typical Multipla!
$2000 plus your excess making $2230 does a hang of a lot of repairs on a Multipla.
Its worth noting that the person giving you the advice about the warranty's has owned and driven Multipla's for years, has even bought and used them as work vehicles. I also do all work on them myself unless I am too busy.
I would be concerned about the motives of any dealer pushing you in to a warranty (not poking at Kazbanz here), some try and use it to escape their CGA liabilities by having a customer claim for stuff they should be covering.
They also get a cut from selling a warranty.
The best advice often comes from those who have actual first hand knowledge and experience and also nothing to gain from any decision you make.
Whatever decision you make on a warranty is entirely up to you, all I am pointing out is that in my mind the math just dosn't add up in this instance. You may think otherwise.
EDIT: One other thing to be aware of too, there are lots of things that the warranty's don't cover and the majority of likely repairs will be less than your excess, so read the fine print carefully.

Ah yes, when I said warranty I meant consumers guarantee, not going to buy a mechanical one (though some car yards give them free), it's just when you buy privately it's so much harder to do anything if the car craps out 5kms from where you bought it than if it was from a dealer.

Fair enough, also depending on where you find one it can be a good idea to get a regular mechanic that deals with the make/model to give it a look over.
I think its fair to say that most of us on here don't take much stock in what the AA or VTNZ have to say and they charge plenty for it too.
With the Multipla, if you find one in Auckland, the Italian Auto Centre would be a great place to get one checked. If you find one in Hamilton there is Dino Enterprises not far away in cambridge and over here in Tauranga I am always happy to give one a preliminary look over for free if it helps you out, although if it passes my pre-check I would suggest it goes up on the hoist at a place called "The Garage" as well, which will cost you very little.
