Nissan terrano help needed

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:25pm
we have put another motor in this about 2 yrs ago,new radiator, head, water pump, fan etc and now it is starting to over heat under load.
going down hill it cools fast but as soon as it hits a hill again the temp starts to climb.
any ideas have checked viscous all ok.
we want to get rid of it but want it fixed first.
we have had it about 6 yrs and has always had a heating prob.
we have fixed everything poss and now starting to play up again
its a 96 2.7 turbo diesal.

Radiator core blocked! whats the coolant flow like! have you checked the thermostat! if not take it out put thermostat in pot of cold water slowly let the water heatto boil dont bloi first other wise you shock the thermostat. possibly blocked water gallery in the block it self! restricting flow! or low on power!

rocky0169, Mar 24, 11:32pm
Was the head new replacement or recoed!

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:33pm
still runs well and just started this on fri.
Has heaps of power.
radiator is brand new.so shouldnt be blocked.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:33pm
2year old radiator and new zealand water. would be my first guess-radiator blocking-needind tank removal and *rodding out*

auto!
seperate trans coller helps em.
(and the fans viscous aren't that crash hot-I.E. somewhere about the top of that hill it cools down quick on the downhill you'll hear the fan humm.not before the gauge moves)

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:33pm
we had headthe head all done up over in kawerau.

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:34pm
yes automatic.
we live rural so using just the fresh water we get from here.
no added chemicals.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:35pm
Fulla ya know in roto wrecks 4x4's still don't E.

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:37pm
yes and just about ready to take it to him to wreck.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:37pm
Yeah and a LOT of later model vehicles with later model radiators-4x4's
ESPESCIALY. are blocking cores and NEED rodding REGULARILY.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:38pm
Meh go find a radiator place and get em to flow test that rad.

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:41pm
will check thermostat first.
real frustrating.
I didnt really want to get rid of it but got to think of economics these days and diesals are to dear to run and keep on the road.

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:42pm
i am to scared to take it to far in case it heats up to far.
haha.might not make it to town.
radiator hasnt long cost us over $300 surely it wouldnt block that soon would it.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:45pm
Meantime fang that heater on screen and hotand full speedfan when ya goin up hills.
After all from what ya spent on it-yeah they are expensive beasties-but handy in winter mud.
And ya do know someone in the area-who-wel I trust him.LOL

mudguts2, Mar 24, 11:48pm
ok thanks.
we have a nissan ute as well so will just keep the 1 diesal.
its the 1 in view road that you know isnt it.
been around town for years and a nice fella.

snoopy221, Mar 24, 11:49pm
Probably 5 or 6 posters here may come back in and comment. Seems some of the maintainence IS rodding them regularily-never used to have to-but late model metallurgy and well.
A lot of rodeos and couriers have lunched motors due to blocked radiator tubes.
New Zealand water and later model metallurgy. IMHO.
[Hence Be AWARE.K]

next-to-normal, Mar 30, 9:19pm
try antifreeze as it raises the boiling point, im a fan of motorup in the engine oil too

elect70, Mar 30, 9:26pm
New thermostat , the fact it cools down going down means the radis ok, fan, wellhardly need it on the move , I ran a car for year with only a manualy switched electric fan , only needed it in town .To test trhemotake it out & put in boiling water, it should open fullyif not get new 1

gadgit3, Mar 30, 9:53pm
I begg to differ. A 50% blocked radiator will preform well under normal conditions but once the load comes on ie a decent hill the lack of flow can't keep the temp down. And you get exactly what this nissan is doing. Also the fan dose serve a purpose on the move under the same loaded condition and viscous fans and blocked radiators are the biggest cause of cracked heads in these jap diesels.
