Theres some good quality cars for you.

peja, Mar 28, 1:03pm
Precisely. That is exactly what Labour were told would happen if they tried to enact such an emissions law, and that is now happening. It would have been far more to the point to try and eliminate that very bottom tier of near worthless vehicles with no WOF AND no rego driven by people that oftn shouldn't be on the road anyway. This not only would have had a far better emissions improvement payoff, it would have resulted in a major road safety payoff as well

kazbanz, Mar 28, 1:06pm
ik104 just to be clear. The CURRENT situation is a blip or if you like a step.
The gubbiment in their wisdom have drawn a a FIXED line in the sandbeing euro4 or 3 diget emission codes depending on the source of the vehicles.
Unfortunately this is a fixed lineso the effect of it in 2013 will be a lot less and 2014 will have little or no effect.
Personally I'm all fora MOVING cutoff line for all imports.
I say that all cars older than 9 years old should not be allowed to be imported. The year starting January 1 of that year.
This will have the effect of all imports climbing to meeet higher emission standards and also higher safety standards

not sure if serious, or just trolling

rpvr, Mar 28, 2:21pm
Sound reasoning from the horse's mouth. Panic over.

bellky, Mar 28, 2:29pm
Presumably there's more profit to be made on a proportionate/percentage basis on later model (more expensive) vehicles.

pebbles61, Mar 28, 2:58pm
Wait.I own a pommy car =(.

horsygirl, Mar 28, 3:00pm
how are labour voters going to get around now.no crap imports.

pebbles61, Mar 28, 3:02pm
What about classics! if the car met the standard required when it was made, can it be imported then!

phillip.weston, Mar 28, 3:22pm
Why would NZ take that stance! There's no local car industry here to protect any longer! And when we were assembling cars here we mostly got the basic versions with bugger all features - having Jap imports opened NZ up to the world of high spec and better quality vehicles for a lower price. It was a no brainer really - but I do agree some restrictions should have been put in place right from the very beginning, rather than a sudden knee-jerk restriction in the last few years.

stevo2, Mar 28, 3:50pm
Agreed, I've said for years there should be a rolling age of 10 years. This will ensure our fleet wont age to much, will have resonable emissions and safety standards.

kazbanz, Mar 28, 4:12pm
You presume wrong. Youda thought500 for a 3k car maybee 1k for a 8 k etc. It just doesan''twork like that. Thanks to the internet etc the price can be 6k or 26 k and the proffit in Dollars remains the sameIe not percentage.
Which is why a fairfew dealers have given up lately--less dealer registrations this year than ever before.

kazbanz, Mar 28, 4:15pm
Now isn't thatexactly the hole in the gubbiment logic!
Ohh yea Lets not allow imports older than XXXbut hey if its a "classic"we'll make it exempt.

xs1100, Mar 28, 5:08pm
yeh much preferred it when before them we considered ourselves privileged if the car had a am/fm radio, let alone a/c,elec windows, power steer.

xs1100, Mar 28, 5:09pm
or the fact that 20yr old cars that had done 200,000 ks were worth more than they were brand new

xs1100, Mar 28, 5:14pm
"rather than a sudden knee-jerk restriction in the last few years."

yes but it kept some government lacky in a job for 6 months dreaming up the regulations and cost thousands to enforce

oliver6, Mar 28, 6:07pm
Sth America, Australia, Russia, Germany, UK, Ireland in particular, Dubai, most African countries, Korea, etc etc.

steelman3, Mar 28, 6:13pm
good cars come from the japan the best in the world, better than the germans better than any others it stimulated the economy and meant trademen could get decent vans and utes that would get them to the job. SO They could get on with life instead of the old holden that i used to drive that was a mission just to keep going. You got to drive round in something reliable and make a dollar. Cant you remember that days when you would look for a car with a good body or a good motor.

pebbles61, Mar 28, 6:30pm
Keep your Jappas.

kazbanz, Mar 28, 6:31pm
What makes me laugh is that the driving force behind this whole thing is really the new car import industry.

pebbles61, Mar 28, 6:33pm
Pretty much aye lol. The stealerships have a lot to gain from this.

trdbzr, Mar 28, 6:37pm
Most finance companies would be loving it as well. More chance of people putting cars on finance now than before. Cars had gone up significantly in price before the new law came into effect.

xs1100, Mar 28, 6:39pm
yep and the government forgot all those guys that tow the cars, fix the cars, comply the cars, sell tyres, sell parts, sell all the consumables and THEY ALL PAID TAX AND THEIR BUSINESSES PAID TAX and then as demand falls so will they

kazbanz, Mar 28, 6:44pm
ACTUALLY---- Nope. Look reality is that there are good honest hardworking types in our community who can stretch to $80 a week in car/insurance payments.(65 for the car and $15 for the insurance)
They simply do not have affordability to make higher payments.
This means they are looking at $6000-maybee at a stretch $7000 cars.
The finance company criteria simply wont let them finance anything with higher payments.
So these people have been royally bleeped by that bleeped bleep joyce

phillip.weston, Mar 28, 9:50pm
^^ how does that guy even sell just ONE car at all! no pictures, no description, ludicrous prices and probably difficult to get in contact with! What a waste of over a thousand dollars to even just list those cars!
