reality would dictate that there is only so much money to go round and if people can only afford $80 then thats it dosent matter how much higher the car is,has always been my argument on 7 day shopping just cause the shops are open dosent mean theres anymore money everyone did there shopping before when it was 5 and a half days with one late night

kcc55a, Mar 28, 7:43pm
Yep they have always been the source of stories about dangerous imports.

3tomany, Mar 28, 8:04pm
at 65 a week for car payments 279 a month you could afford a 10,000 dollar car and there is some good carsaround that money i leased a new focus for 90 a month not long ago so it leaves me wondering what the big deal is here if resale values increase i will trade my new cars more often putting more late model used cars on the market and that trickle down affect will continue

johnf_456, Mar 28, 8:15pm
At the end of the day making cars more expensive will just make people hold onto their cars longer.

kazbanz, Mar 28, 8:19pm
What financier are you using! What interest rate! What insurance company!
The PAYMENTS on a 10k loan with no extrasare $77 a weekand then the compusary insurance is at least another $15 a week making $90 a week repayments. And that is based on a 4 year term. which is the maximum term a non home owner can borrow over.
The issue for someone in YOUR situation is that rather than a rolling age limit the gubbiment has set a fixed limit. This means that just as the poor shmucks have paid off this 10k car the flood of used imports will have resumed and their car will have hugely devalued. So mr blue collar worker gets a double whammy.

and replace them with .what, exactly ! ridiculous statement.

rob_man, Mar 28, 10:08pm
Home made Australian dinosaurs.

3tomany, Mar 29, 4:09am
somebody is ripping somebody of 15 bucks for insurance is rediculas thats 780 dollars for a car under 10k. I borrowed 12k a few months ago and the payments are 366 a month over 3 years yea my interest is cheaper than others but that wouldnt make a huge differance. just worked out if someone paid double my interest rate it would ad 42 bucks a month

bantamus, Mar 29, 4:13am
they said a while ago too that the tsunami would have an impact too

3tomany, Mar 29, 4:20am
at $77 a week they would end up paying 16k for that 10k car i might become a loan shark

3tomany, Mar 29, 4:22am
300,000 cars were lost in the tsunami and i might be wrong but car sales new in japan are way down anyway so the supply of good used cars is drying up anyway

kcc55a, Mar 29, 4:25am
As they were when the first Jap imports started arriving. Didnt work then and shouldnt work now. Remember the rorts when you had to have "overseas funds" to get a new car!Remember the new car dealers who imported sports cars, used them during the summer and then onsold at a 60% profit.I smile remembering the way the arse dropped out of the price ofMazda RX's when the imports started arriving.

eagles9999, Mar 29, 4:28am
Not really, the problem is too many other countries are now buying secondhand Jap cars.

kazbanz, Mar 29, 4:49am
So what you are trying to say is the TOTAL cost of credit over 3 years was the grand sum of$1176 including all documentation fees.
allowing a tiny doc fee of $176 that leaves you with an interest component over 3 years of $1000 for $12k
That means you are saying you pay 4 percent interest.Or a LONG way below even the national MORGAGE rate.
No normal person gets 4 percent-they get between 13.95 and 16 percent and the doc fees are around $350
Also--where do you get yourt figures thatmeans the average joe does NOT pay around $750 for a years insurance.

kazbanz, Mar 29, 4:53am
$77 a week is based on a fairly conservative 14.95%with 350 doc feeswhich covers the averages for blue collar workers. being a single income family renting with no other major assets.

kazbanz, Mar 29, 4:55am
The tsunami is still affecting availability of cars to a degree as is the power cuts in the car plants and the simple fact that its still winter in Japan

3tomany, Mar 29, 5:19am
not sure if this will work https://www.sorted.org.nz/calculators/debt!gclid=CKuioPqsi68CFcgopAod90ey9g put in 10k at15% and add 350 booking fee should come out at 66 per week

kazbanz, Mar 29, 5:26am
So do you want to explain how you pay 4% interest then!

3tomany, Mar 29, 5:28am
6.25 is what i actually pay

3tomany, Mar 29, 5:31am
comes out at 365 a month on sorted

texastwo, Mar 29, 7:07am
If I borrow against my house using my revolving credit account I payabout 5.85%

texastwo, Mar 29, 7:08am
$350 booking fee is sheer extortion.

pebbles61, Mar 29, 7:32am
They're just boring cars that go A to B and you know they're gonna start when you turn the key.

kazbanz, Mar 29, 10:45pm
so you don't pay any doc fees then!
Tell me where a non home owner is going to get morgage interest rates!

3tomany, Mar 30, 12:17am
na doc fee just a cost bank charge it not add to loan and i am not saying it will work for others but at 15% interest a ten thousand dollar loan is about 66 bucks a week and besides there still seems to be a lot of good cars around 4 or 5k for those having trouble getting finance
