Toyota Ipsum stereo/sat nav etc

Hi, We are looking at a 2006 Ipsum 240i and are wondering exactly what is controlled by the stereo/sat nav panel and if we can just swap it out for a more regular (and in English) stereo. Is the air con separate! It looked it, though when we tried turning the stereo off to silence the lovely Japanese lady, everything stopped. The reversing camera would be nice, but we arent bothered by the sat nav.Its just that everything is in Japanese (obviously, its an import) and in its current state is a bit useless for us.We've been told we can buy a manual in English. We've been told the radio is fine, just limited. Can we fit a band width expander or are we better off ripping it [carefully] out and fitting something else. While we are reasonably competent, we arent techno wizards. All useful suggestions and comments much appreciated, thanks.

TTB--Ok to start with. The satnav will never work in NZ.
If you remove the unit yes you will lose your reversing camera and if it has front cameras you will lose this too.
You CAN fit a kiwi radio in the hole. You will need either a double din sterio (double height) and the toyota spacer kit or a standard radio,a pocket for under it and a spacer kit. --Toyota sterios are 10mm wider than a normal sterio,
I have a 2001 ipsum here and in that model the ac controls are totally seperate from this screen
Yes you can buy an english translation owners manual for about $50
No disrespect meant here but by the tone of your questions its probably easier to get a sterio installer to sort it out for you

Thanks kazbanz. No offense taken! Thanks for taking the time to answer. We are well aware that the sat nav wont work, its the rest of it we were wondering about. Its good to know our options before buying the vehicle - the rest of the car checks out great!

It is probably the same as one of these you can then simply load nz maps onto them. You then have reverse camera and handsfree calling as well as audio streaming.

Interesting to know. We've been looking at Ipsums lately too, and would really like to get one with a reversing camera.Does anyone in NZ sell these units!Seems a better option than just hucking out the old unit and putting in a normal stereo!

You are bang on right max --BUT still for it to fit a toyota its 10mm too narrow so needs the toyota "kit' spacers
