Toyota Hilux common rail 45k service cost

comphardware, Apr 14, 6:20pm
was looking at getting a 06-08 hilux and just read all the misery stories with the 3.0 d4d engine and injector problems leaking etc, wondering how much the 45k service cost is and also do other common rail diesel have this problem (injector seals) eg bt50, stx etc.!
also would like Mechanics to rate 2wd utesfor reliability if possible, eg, known faults what to expect and how much cost cause as it seems if i get a hilux looks like i will have to replace the injectors soon or engine, nissan stx looks like they got weak clutches and need replacing often!

Well in my job I only ever really see engines that are knackered and need fixing. And in the last month, we have done 1 ZD30 full rebuild after it melted a piston. And 4 YD25 common rain heads. All cracked between the seats. And 1 broke the timing chain. Havnt seen any Toyota D4D engines yet. They must be keeping them quiet.

I've done injector seat washers on three Toyota Hilux engines, and one rebuild due to a long term injector seat washer failure.

I think the 45k service is around $600.

if the service was done at 45k intervals on the d4d do you think it will still fail prematurely or replacing the injector seat at the 45k service will make this problem disappear!, dont want another petrol ute hideous economy when towing, was looking at the tritons any reason you think they made the change to 2.5 from the 3.2! do the 3.2 give problems!

Read with interest the Melb. Herald sun Article Today re Hilux D4D problems. Same engine as Prado right?

Tough but breakable

This relates to thread:

Injector seal leak=oil pickup block=engine failure D4D

the recall mentioned in the UK is no doubt related to the same link:

Hope that dealerships in OZ can start to assist owners with simple checks before this issue allows their engines to prematurely self destruct.
