Has it got manual locking hubs!

89 or 99!

patrick.., Jun 10, 7:04am
Yea it 89 must be the first with the push button stuff, auto hubs

patrick.., Jun 10, 7:09am
well it has electric hubs that are ment to lock with the button, the button is ment to activate the transfer case and lock the hubs but the transer case isnt even getting the power into the front driveshaft

Unless you have manual hubs then they are permantly engaged and the process of activating the "4WD" button simply brings the front diff in. Try engaging drive and reverse quickly to see if the front diff will lock.

The actuator on the transfer case in not working . could be faulty motor or broken spring. Normally it's the motor seized up.

Oh and the 4WD system has two actuators. One on the diff to en-gauge/dis-en-gauge the RH axle via a dog gear. And the other on the back of the transfer box to do the same via a dog gear on the front drive shaft output.
The front diff one is vac operated and the transfer one is an electric motor that loads up a spiral spring.

I would be going with a faulty shift motor too. They are located on the rear of the transfer box.Easy enough to remove and test.
