This is where cheeky buggers put it on a switch, all though by the sounds thats near impossibility to do

im trying to find if anyone knows how to switch a 08/09 sheep shagger hilux s speedo, (for private off road use of course)have tried all three wires out of the sensor, this stops the speedo, but brings on the engine warning light, is there any way round this! cheers

for_an_angel, Jun 1, 3:22am
No the ECU needs to know whats going on. After a longer trip without the odo or speedo working the ECU will go to limp mode. had plenty of customers ask the question and the few that didn't want to listen and had me fit a switch had a slow trip home from a distance lol

jonieponie, Jun 1, 3:23am
thanks, so theres no way round technology then!

There is but you need to stick something in it's place.basically to fool the ECU into seeing a speed signal. Say you drive by GPS 100km/h. but your speedo reads 10km/h because your signal generator fools the ecu to think that. long story short you clock up 10km for every 100km done. do-able but would you bother!

It's entirely possible, we have a customer at work who's one is done, doesn't cause any problems or the engine light to come on.

thanks heaps, gues theres no way of getting past the long arms of the government, god dam rogues.

for_an_angel, Jun 1, 3:33am
Also you would need to fool the ABS system. as it's this system that is throwing the code to bring on the engine light. ECU sees the speed signal at 0km/h but ABS signal from speed sensors on all 4 wheels shows 50km/h ECU throws a code and starts asking whats going on. After a while it decides safety may become an issue so cuts engine power.

I wouldn't worry about you can't be a huge amount of km's off road, the tax still covers acc etc. Which is applicable on road or off road, same goes for filling up my water toys I still pay the tax or the lawn mower. It also keeps the odometer current so you know its genuine mileage.

Haha I guessed you really wanted to bypass the gov tax lol not just off road.
There is a way but you would need to find someone that can read wiring diagrams and pull the combo meter apart without destroying it haha. I'm afraid I'm not going to tell over a public forum but have done this on Hilux that are used off road legit.

Good find but because the Hilux is only very basic when it comes to multiplex. it still runs speed sensors on all 4 wheels for ABS correction and a speed sensor in the tail shaft of the trans so there will still be a difference between the speed from the trans and the speed seen from the wheel speed sensor. so you will still see a code throwen. 2010 Hilux would be different again as it has VSC (no gear box sensor just wheel speed sensors.

clever little asians ae

grangies, Jun 1, 4:17am
That's fraud.

If you sell it, the speedo will be INCORRECT !

for_an_angel, Jun 1, 4:18am
Assumption misleads
ECU sees the speed signal from the box speed sensor from the cluster but sees the wheel speed sensor signal from the ABS ECU so if any mods are done it needs to be internal within the cluster. This rule stands for Hilux but changes for other models depending on the level of multiplex

for_an_angel, Jun 1, 4:21am
To do it legit you need to run a Terra-trip and or hour meter

grangies, Jun 1, 4:25am

I doubt bugger all of the speedo fraudsters do that .Hehehe.

Refer post 9 lol
Exactly why it's not something I would post on an open forum

Nope might want to reread post 9 lol
I don't like the extra cost of diesel so my hiace has a 4.0l v8 fitted. cheeper then the old 2.8 diesel to run.

grangies, Jun 1, 4:57am
lol.

You never said that in #9 though.

But if you know how, then, wicked.

What about the older models . I have seen 3 wires going into the back of the gearbox on a 93' Hilux LN106 2.8. The truck dosen't have an ECU I don't think . everythings mechanical. Which one of those 3 wires do you put a switch in if you wanted to disable the Odometer on odd occaision for R&D purposes.

No, Fulton Hogan have laid two patches of piss poor road repairs at sizable cost to the NZ taxpayer. Its high time they were held accountable for their shonky road building and repairs as they seem to be getting worse. God help us if Fulton Hogan get the Transmission Gully contract

johnf_456, Jun 16, 5:31pm
Still do not agree, if you have issues with road quality complain about it. Don't make everyone else pay for the free loaders.

taipan4, Jun 16, 6:53pm
yup do unto others as you would have them do to you "ok if I do it but I don't want to buy a vehicle that's had it done to it" man up & pay your way sheep sheepshagger
