IIRC the 173 in the Belmont ute used to valve bounce at about 145k. There was nothing like a mechanical rev limiter to keep you out of TOO much trouble.

My VE V8 is limited to 250km/hr, some in the middle east (export market) have done 270.

Think mine was 160, took a while to get from 155 to 160 though. 1.8 auto.

Not top speed but the pulsar does 210 on a 930m straight (teretonga) according to gear calculations and RPM. Thats just getting into top gear and it feels like if you had a good distance it would have plenty more. Not bad for a 2.0L non turbo.

210 in a VT! That must have taken a while.and been very floaty. I saw a VS Ecotec manage 210 after a very very long time (private road of course), was virtually dead when it dropped in to 4th. In other news, I had my Volvo 850 up to 110 the other day, being the rabid speed freak that I am.

I know of a bog-standard turbo diesel Skoda vRS that did 245 once. And my Ford Mondeo XR5 turbo will apparently do 260. though i haven't had a chance to try this one.

I got the throttle stuck wide open on my Sunturd Starfire Traumatic back in the day. Just carried on to my destination, there was no danger of going too fast. (I am actually not kidding either)

Watch out #1plod could send you a ticket, dont have to catch you in the act .That speed would result in immediateforfeiture of licence& a very big fine .Doesnt pay toadvertise .

Presumably your brakes didn't fade to zero in braking from that speed. Holden brakes of that era were a dangerous joke.

tsk tsk fordtelstar paul radisich model 2.5 v6 quad cam factory adjusted bits speedo read 280 lols was nt being towed but at 210 ks it got speed wobbles snakeing all over the showdam good brakes thoe , pillick that brought it from winton utterly ruined it in 3 months wat a absolute tosser totally disgusted wreakers offered him 300 and he took it such a waste I wud ve brought the ole girl back offa him for twice that andrew

brought a mitsi againnever ever again pieces of shite still 1450 for that good score and brought my nissan , wiffee wanted a car spyed a mazda mx6 on trademe guy was shrillbidding aye caught him out withdrew my bid too wife paid him 250 for it in the end traliered it home spend 750 on it brakes and rego and wheel bearing its cheap to run too same running gears as the radisich ford gets up n snots 4 w steer too wud out last my nissan too well so far
