It's a shame that the NZ models like the Telstar and 626 got the lower spec 165HP 2.5 V6 while the Jap imports like the MX6, Autozam Clef (weird name!), MS8 etc got the 200HP 2.5.

Nice XRi here http://www.carcitychch.co.nz/product_pcid_1596.html#DB but the price is shocking.

My old VN V8, 480,000km on the clock, clocks out at 220km.

Ford escort 1.8L, close out grill & lowered goes to 125MPH/ 200kph.

An ex cop I worked with reckoned VN 3.8s would hit 230 after they had 20k on them but could barely do 200 new. My old 2.1 TDI Pug could easily out run 3.8 Dores from 100kmh onward all the way to 4500rpm in top so they sure aint fast

The reason we got the lower spec motor was at that time Mazda rated the fuel in the country of selling on a scale of 1 to 3. With 1 being European standard high quality, and 3 being barely acceptable. There were only 2 countries that were in the 3 level. Zimbabwe and NZ. Until they upgraded Marsden point the RON could have been anything +/- 10%
It was a shame as I did have a couple of modified ECU's and engines that were good for 200+kW. They were scrapped when we closed the assembly plant in Wiri which was a shame.
