Had a Mitsi Starion up to 260 in Outback Oz years ago,,,,started to float .My XR6T would give it a run for it's money I reckon.but I'm too old and sensible now.

The only danger would have been running out of gas before you got there, the performance vs economy of those Sunburnt turds was some sort ofsick joke on GMH's part. You were better off with a 6cyl Torana, at least it performed for the amount of gas it used.

Nah got up there pretty quick to be honest , when i brought it off previous owner he told me it was ex police car , but unsure. Great handling.

morrisman1, Dec 21, 8:22am
cool story bro.

mgmad, Dec 21, 8:34am
Similar situation for my car, reading well of the speedo but hitting a calculated 145mph down the back straight at pukekohe - problem is it gets there about 2/3s the way along and then just sits on the rev limiter in 5th not going any faster. Gets a bit of handful over 130.

petermcg, Dec 21, 8:43am
0 to 60 time (mph) a few years back in a hillman imp,, and as far as I know we still havent reached 60

carmad50, Dec 21, 9:34am

Holden Gemini (Isuzu rear wheel drive model) probably 110kph.
VL GTS Commodore (5 speed, big bore.) probably 130. I wasn't trying in either car.

thejazzpianoma, Dec 21, 9:49am
How right you are!
Initially I thought that there must have been something drastically wrong with mine it used so much fuel.

thewomble1, Dec 21, 11:49am

carmad50, Dec 21, 9:36pm

230k.in a vn. did they chase him downhill!

mustang-man, Dec 22, 1:04am
Fastest i've driven is 180 km/h (speed limited) in a stock Skyline GTS-4 (R32). Just to see if it had a limiter, never tried it again.

Have been 280 km/h when i got a ride in mates R33 Skyline GT-R. A few weeks later he rolled it while doing a local hillclimb event. :/

panelvanner, Dec 22, 4:21am
Mark Skaife holds the world speed record for a standard truck (ute), 276! Or so, in a Maloo ute. Google it. Was held by F-150 Lightning, then the Ram, then Holden.

I once got the old Jag up to 100mph. She had more, but I had to slow down to light my pipe and adjust my tweed jacket.

tantric5, Dec 22, 5:52am

Back in the early 80's I use to chase my mate up Ngauranga Gorge in my XAGT,he had an E49,think we use to hit about 110mph,only problem was the traffic lights that use to be there would go red, pretty hard to haul those cars up in the short distance with those brakes.

trogedon, Dec 22, 7:28am
While reading The Times no doubt.

3tomany, Dec 23, 4:54am
dont start that already or we might have to get you commited

doug207, Dec 23, 5:53am
Nope, I've got bikes for the speed thing, cars don't do it for me so much.
