ok so the dyno threw some codes at me and one indicates the cam shaft position sensor was bung, so i replaced that and though now the car is starting more often then not, it still has its days.
before i go attacking it again, it has been suggest to change the coil packs! i have a spare set here. no other reason can be found for it not starting. the last owner though it was the alarm but i can push start it when she wont start. ideas greatly appreciated. thanks

Lets take this slowley. You can push start it and you think the coils are crook.Did it not occur to you that it requires the coils to start if you push it, jump it, key it, shove it, or any other sort of >>> it.

Sick battery or sick starter.Either way depriving coils of the grunt they need to work when trying to key start.

but are the starters in the coil packs!

How old is the battery! Voltage might be dropping on cranking enough to cause a weak spark = poor starting.

Push starting doesn't require cranking so healthy spark = easy starting.

A bad engine earth strap could also cause this.

Food for thought.
