Hello.
Does anyone know if you have to be an AA member to get them to check a vehicle in another town?
Any idea of the cost?
Thanks kindly

No you just get a discount off it if you are. You are best to get the nearest official agent, or as a second choice an independent specialist for that make to spend an hour going over it rather than use AA, they simply have a better idea of what's normal and what is not. This is more important the newer the vehicle is. They may have a fixed price for this or will simply charge you for an hours work, I wouldn't expect it to cost much more than $100.

aa checks wont find real problems like hedgaskets about to blow out.thy find cosmetic flawss like scraches on paint , So your better to use a mechanic you trust to check it out and make a report of what is what and you want to see the whole service hystory documents. if the car is newer.

Are you saying you can tell if a head gasket is 'about to blow' ?

No you don't have to be an AA member to get an AA PP inspection. Cost will be $169 for a standard 4 cylinder vehicle.
($149 for an AA member)

We paid $150 for a full car inspection before travelling to buy our car.
They gave it a full pass. They only missed. The leaking front shock. The worn suspension bushes in the rear. The non functioning rear wiper squirter. The impact damage to l/h rear suspension. The fact that the exhaust was non standard and the hesitation just off boost. Honestly it was a joke, might as well just send an uncle to go kick the tyres.

Don't get an "AA" check just because it's the AA! at least 5 reports i have seen over the years seemed good on paper until I checked the car IRL. i would never use them, and for a PPI would find either a specialist mechanic or a mechanic who knows certain cars.
