Aren't we supposed to come to you for motoring advice? Doesn't Paul know?

consider what its used for . trolling on lake taupo or launching off the west coast. 60 hp ain't gunna be much use with a train rolling in and you needing a quick exit from the beach or the bar at whakatane !

If it's a light open alloy boat that you and a mate are going fishing in, 60hp would be heaps. If it'sa heavier hardtop boat that you're going to load 4 divers and all their kit into, 60 would be way underpowered

60 hp 4 stroke on a 5.3 alloy will be a good combination.

^^ What he says. For two people trolling in Taupo you couldn't get a better combination, BUT for three big guys and their dive gear crossing a bar like Sumner, the Waimak or Motunau, would be grossly underpowered. So choose your power to match your intended use.

This. I have a similar sized stabi with a 90 horse stroker. We dive and fish, its adequate, but ten more horse would be great.

OP, I think what is coming through strongly is to choose your power to match your intended use. If you are only going to be lightly loaded in sheltered waters, the lower option will be fine, and why carry an extra 100 kgs and many dollars on the transom if you don't need it.

Conversely, if you wind up sideways crossing a bar because of lack of grunt you will not get a second chance. Happy boating.
