so from comments and searching mr internet here it seems that calcium batteries are just about the norm nowdays and your old charger is no longer of much use . calcium battery calcium capable charger. lead battery old school charger. correct?

yup correct I have the charger that does multi types lead, cal, etc and it doesn't hurt to top up your battery coming into winter

They can be ok , the good ones just use the old case & terminal caps with new plates .

Local specialist battery place/auto sparky has best "every day" price, but as above they can't beat the big chains on sale day.
