I took it to a Toyota dealership and they drained the gearbox oil and filled with new transmission fluid. Also added Morays additive. Appears to be fixed, so hopefully that's all it needed!
So I guess I now know the difference between those $99 services - and the $240 ones.

Thanks for that too. My trusty old motor mac retired 2-3 years ago and I haven't found a decent one since. Though I think the guys at Miles Toyota should be good too, just not so cheap
