asking on behalf of a mate, 180,000kms are these a hand grenade with the pin pulled out like the early 2000 engines or have most of the issues been sorted by now? cheers.

any modern diesel is a glass slipper,i sold a ZD30 a while back that had done 340000. its still going well. Correct maintenance is the key.

most of the issues seam to be sorted. certainly don't hear of many later ones (after 2003) blow pistons.
however they can get injection issues any time. turbo's are a bit weak' they are know to fail. alternator clutch and belt tensioner are common failures.
major head piston failures tend to be injection related and also how clogged the intake is from the egr system.

if its the 7 litre sump its fine the earlier one was a 5. that's been my understanding

sumps where not changed. they shortened the dipstick. big downside is they blow lots of oil out the breather due to high oil level.
it never solved the issues and the oil in the intake created other issues.

Its a series 2 version, the problem they had on the series 1 versions was the turbo boost sensor went faulty and didn't tell the pump properly. They changed from memory in about march/ april 2005.

Correct, usually due to damaged vacuum lines so engines were running at full boost all the time.

sounds like a few of you are getting the navara zd30 mixed up with the patrol zd30. damaged vac lines won't cause high boost on navara but can on patrol.

not sure about series 1 and 2. series 1 d22 navara never had the zd30. only series 2 did.
