Nissan D40 Navara - Any Good ?

mals69, Dec 28, 6:50pm
Was looking at getting one when prices come down bit more.

See in a topic in here guy got 2014 and exhaust gas temp sensor
probably gone - how common is it for sensors to go per say 100 D40's ?

Read timing chains can stretch, clutches can go - again how common ?

Cheers

Chainstretch seems more an issue of wrong grade oil or poor servicing. Seen quite a few with chain issues but none that have been dealer serviced throughout. Egt sensors are almost 100% but don't let that put you off, virtually all covered under warranty and the superseded part doesn't appear to have any issues. Have yet to see a clutch failure that wasn't wear and tear. Some people abuse the dual mass flywheel but there's no inherent faults in them.

The heads can crack on the yd25 engine too. By the time a timing chain has needed replacing in conjunction with replacing a cracked head some have put in LS or other engines in Aus with a GM auto transmission with a trans adaptor to still have 4 wheel drive.

That is reassuring with it being more problems caused from the user
than the vehicle. Would go for one with dealer servicing history
after what you have said. Cheers

Check them over carefully, some of the early models 05-06-07 in particular getting tired, especially if they've had much offroad use. The radiators can get blocked up on the outside real easy by straw and other debris which leads to unnoticed overheating. Proper servicing is a must, beware of any YD25 that seems too rattly either after starting, when idling or under load. Idle should be dead smooth, if its not the injectors could be blocking up and/or suction valve is going to need replacing, both are expensive repairs. Exhaust smoke of any kind is a no no, EGR valve failure is common and turbos will let go on neglected ones. Apart from bottom balljoints the chassis is pretty good and a huge improvement over D22. Beware of gear levers that are sloppy on manuals (used hard) or autos that are slow to select reverse, don't buy an auto that needs a rev to engage reverse, its going to die soon. Check also that it goes in and out of 4H and 4L and back to 2H quickly, the 4x4 system can give issues. Finally make sure the ABS and airbag lights are working properly, damaged wheel speed sensors and clocksprings are common. Have fun.

Cheers Franc for covering off on all those points - cracker info
to take with me when start looking

Most if not all I have followed do have black exhaust smoke when they have accelerated, and the auto in mine has always been slow into reverse from cold, but it is the seven speed variant.

Hi franc123, I have a 2000 TD27 that is rattly in neutral but quiet with the clutch in. Had conflicting advice from mechanics, one said new clutch'l fix it. What do you reckon?

same here with 2013 6 speed, has been slow to start moving in reverse from brand new, now with 30k on her is unchanged.
