How long does it take to get an inspection? An hour or two? They want you to pay a deposit for that? Next thing is they will want you to pay a deposit just to take it for a test drive, in case someone would have bought it in that time!

For what it's worth. there is currently an acute shortage of NZ-new used retail stock in the market with dealers. Franchise stock buyers are literally combing the country for suitable stock- so do bear in mind that the dealer in question may be quite correct- if you don't buy it, someone else will, pretty quickly.
With the exception of "off-brand" franchises, most new dealers (and dealers in NZ-new stock) are working on a seller's market.

But what would we know? -Ohh you mean we are actually dealing with this stuff NOW in the current market ? Not based on a theory and a feeling from back when "we last bought a car"

So how many 20k plus vehicles have you purchased from a dealer in the past year?.

If it was a case of taking the car away for a couple of hours any dealer would agree, but the 5 day wait is too long to hold it without a deposit subject to an inspection, not subject to change of mind or anything else.
