This thread is a collection of folk needing reading tuition.
How easily they jump on board this train to nowhere.

But if it's in support of one of their experiments, one weekend is statistically 'definite' for the NZ Police PR bollocks merchants LOLtake the 4km/h tolerance for instance. There was much crowing for one better weekend and then the rest of those weekends were actually worse than 'usual'.Let's hope they aren't stupid enough to experiment with that again

Also a lot of posters jumping on this assumption about economic downturn and/or price of fuel equating to less driving.
Has any one of you ANY factual information about a measurable reduction in km's traveled! Has anyone here actually changed their own driving habits because of the price of fuel!

well i came here after reading the herald
""We don't know all the factors behind what is driving the reduction in the road toll but we do know that police visibility and action plays an important part. Our actions are saving people's lives.''"

OTOH, when I see complete f&%&wits like those kids in the silver car who nearly flattened us while driving at high speed (30kph limit) and trying (unsuccessfully) to drift on the sand at the beach yesterday, I am in support of raising the road toll artificially. Landfill has a certain ring about it.

Thats right, and meanwhile while the Police are putting obscene amounts of resources into revenue collection people are being harmed and killed because they don't turn up to emergency's in a timely manner.
Its about BALANCE and the balance is all short to hang.
Sadly though until other emergencies are largely self funding like road policing those deaths and injury's will be ignored.

No - it means 1572 would be equivalent.

too bad most of them lie to increase their revenue anyway the bullshit 4kmh tolerance just increases that opportunity the police fail to wake up to the fact that sometimes one vehicle needs to overtake another (hence why the s**theads sit on passing lanes all the time with their radar guns) its all about revenue gathering they couldn't give a sh*t about your safety if they did they would allow overtaking to happen as it reduces driver frustration and allows for a smoother flow of traffic did you know it will take 2km of clear road to overtake a truck doing 90kph sticking to the 100kph speed limit where if you do 120 it will only take around 400m i don't know about the other gullible drones but i would rather get the overtaking done as fast as possible so i spend less time on the wrong side of the road exposed to the potential risk of a head on collision, but if they allowed that their revenue count would go down, you have to recover your govt's debt somehow i guess.

Ya know. even a monkey would stop doing the same thing over and over if it hurt. I guess you don't have the brains of a monkey

you should talk to marcus lush on radio live he brought this up yesterday and at the time he was gussing "oh yah the road tolls reduce 2/3rds since 1975" i was like "get real that was over 30 yrs ago huge advancements since then in everything and before we get to proud lets look at year on year and maybe this one was a abnormality"

the brain washing by the police and the nzta is working well on a few examples i see (probably all cr-v drivers)

the last traffic ticket i got honda boy was dropped because i proved outright the scumbag was tellinglies.
scotty20001,
Dec 24, 8:54am
they calibrate their own units! hows that for bias, secondly they arn't accurate compared to a GPS (been proven before) esp when operated at an angle or pointed at the wrong car nor do they have a time and date stamp so you could easily leave the last reading on and bullshit the ticket the system is completely primitive and flawed.
scotty20001,
Dec 24, 9:05am
if you think they are professionals you have another think coming, nobody in the nzta has ever worked in the transport industry they are all pen pushers, but if you insist i will lets say you want to overtake a vehicle that is 3 meters long that is sitting on 95kph doing the 100kph speed limit wich the bacon brigade think you are a criminal if you break it it will take you 4,442 meters to complete the overtake, do the same at 120 it will take you 1,142 meters, i know what i would rather do and i would rather not spend 4.4km on the wrong side of the road where by speeding up to 120 you cut your time in danger by well over half.

"New Zealand is heading towards its lowest annual road toll in nearly 60 years as police note traffic is "noticeably calmer" around the country.
The official road toll on Wednesday stood at 269 just ahead of the Christmas holiday road period, and barring a horrific final few days, 2011 should record a sub-300 figure.
The last time that happened was in 1952, when the population was half what it is now and there was just a sixth the number of vehicles on the road than there are now. That year, 272 people were killed.
Since 795 road deaths in 1987 the toll has been dropping, despite increases in population, vehicle numbers and the amount of travel.
The majority of New Zealand drivers have taken the messages around the hazards of speed, drink driving and safety belts to heart, says road policing national manager, Superintendent Paula Rose.
Police have noticed a real difference in behaviour on the roads. Average speeds were down and the traffic across the whole network was noticeably calmer.
"The majority of drivers do stick to the speed limit, and drive to the conditions," she said.
"The majority wear safety belts, never drink-drive and are courteous, considerate and safe but between now and the end of the year there will be more people partying, travelling and celebrating the lead-up to Christmas."
Police would be out in force again this holiday period, and ticketing anyone caught driving 4km/h faster than the speed limit, she said. The official holiday period runs from 4pm this Friday to 6am on Wednesday, January 4."" I read that article then I read it again and nowhere did I see a claim by Police that THEY took the credit for the reduced road toll.In fact I read that they gave credit to the NZ driver!Must be my dusty spectacles that caused me to miss something there!

You do know that the speed accuracy calibration certificates issued to Police vehicles are contestable in court, don't you!If you are "caught" speeding where the speedo in the Police unit is the benchmark you have the right to insist an having that speedo checked by an independent expert (at your expense of course).Incidentally their calibration equipment is verified by an independent authority.
