Good post. Why do they continue to build new roads without cycle lanes ! Very shortsighted.

Because you are not paying to use that particular vehicle on it, and you are a minority.

Rubbish. That isn't why they cannot plan logically. It has nothing to do with user pays, it is bad future planning.

So if you knew the answer, why did you ask the question! Cyclists should be run over at birth, they are a damned disgrace swanning around on our public roads causing crashes and then claiming all sorts of rights. When they pay license fees, ACC, and have compulsory insurance then they will be afforded equal rights on the road.

Cyclists should be.following the road rules as much as they expect everyone else to. you know, lead by example.
He does seem to be a tosser. However, not that dissimilar from the average NZ driver. He probably performs a harka before he drives to stimulate his agression

Hmmm... a much better point: you should have to pass an intellgence test before you are allowed to use a message board.
It appears that a lot here have NO CLUE. You do realise that the money you pay for car regos and fuel excise duty has VERY LITTLE to do with the roads cycled on daily???
Local roads are funded by the local Councils, from RATES. Cyclists pay rates, just like all the other drivers! You may not be aware, but when you dirive into a different council area, YOU HAVE NOT paid your way - the locals have. Cyclists cause less wear and tear on roads, have less emmisions (depending on diet) and actually make the roads LESS busy - every bike you pass, is one car not waiting at the traffic lights when you get there.
Then there are the health benefits associated with the cyclists, and the lower burden on the health system.
So, if you REALLY think everybody should pay their own way, expect car running costs to increase! Have you thought of all the people who don't drive, and are subsidising road users - they have to pay rates too. Everybody pays ACC contributions from employment.
So - to make it simple for the retards - cyclists already pay their way, and are subsidising drivers The roads the cyclists use don't need to be anywhere near as wide, or as heavy duty, but they still have to pay for them.
I can't believe some of you can even manage to use these message boards, yet are too stupid to even think about the issue you are talking about!
