Many thanks for this link - it just reminded me how hard was to replace the THERMOSTAT (which was hiding behind the cambelt)!

karlo, Mar 9, 5:11pm
Thanks for your ongoing support - most appreciated. However, this is a job for a professional - I am neither qualified nor equiped to muck around the cambelt and will find someone to have a look at it (hopefully soon). BTW: Engine is C14NZ

Ok, ok new sparkplugs are on their way (by popular demand :)

marte, Mar 9, 5:40pm
How big is the spark?
Put a Phillips screwdriver into the plug leads boot & sit it on the engine & see how big the spark can get before it gives up.
Or how far the spark is on the sparkplug.

I'm thinking it's a bad condenser now. It will still give a weak blue spark, which will occasionally fire the engine, but it's not enough to make it run at all.

Ok, how do we test a condenser?

It needs a multimeter with a needle display

I'm guessing that there's a way to charge it up with 12 volts & discharge it thru a lightbulb.
Or can you test the circuit on the car at the coil using a multimeter?

there is no condenser in a 1995 engine. it was meant to be a joke. condenser are to save contact sets from burning a hole in the platinum breaker.
what he should do is check the cap internals and rotor for corrosion from ozone

if its this ignition system then its exactly what my punto fiat has with gm rochester ecu

or more common condensation ie moisture !

ash4561, Mar 9, 7:18pm
Put petrol over it and toss a match at it.

marte, Mar 9, 8:10pm
Thanks, I saw a rotor cap in the photo of the engine model.

I've pretty much jumped from 'dizzy with points' to ' Coil on plugs' & missed everything in between.

this is whats most likely on this car

question is has it got the bypass ignition system.

for marte the last posts

has merit
however even this instruction as simple as it is will not be able to be done without a meeting of the committee

especially since in this new world order anyone who posesses matches is a ter-r-o-rist. and you must hand it in to the collection points for destruction and compensation.

And I thought Quantum Physics is hard to understand.

Brand new sparkplugs installed today and still no joy. After LOTS of cranking spark plugs are DRY!

strobo, Mar 10, 1:32pm
Well it aint getting fuel is it ! where earlier you said it was . did you check again for spark.Remove the dist cap and give it wipe with soft rag look closely for cracking

intrade, Mar 10, 1:33pm
i told you have no fuel as most likely cause. did you check the timing marks and twist belt 180 degree like bodged and legit shows.

karlo, Mar 10, 2:28pm
Checking the timing marks is a bit too much for me, as for belt twisting - it's 90 degrees (as bodged & legit corrected himself). I've done that and it seems perfectly fine:

add fuel to tank
start car

gazzat22, Mar 11, 10:18am
Check the fuel filter is not blocked(dried out when car not used).Crank motor over and see if fuel is being delivered to filter if its the clear plastic type. Bit of a long shot but a car needs 3 things Fuel. ignition. compression.

intrade, Mar 11, 12:31pm
102 its fuel injection with 1 injector inside a fake carburettor housing. it will have to be 3.5 bar pressure to run correct and 1 bar to start it pressure fuel filter on my fiat near tank i changed it more modern ones dont have a fuel filter this has one somewhere guaranteed made of metal.
ignition on or cranking will power on the fuelpump.
you need the - battery pole loose because once pump squirts it wants to build 3,5 bar pressure and you got to stop it by disconnecting the battrery minus instantly as some wont stop for another 30 secound with ignition off.

karlo, Mar 11, 7:09pm
Fuel filter is made of metal and "conveniently" positioned under the car!

Not my cuppa tea - rain season has started and I am officially giving up (for now).
