So you seem to have made the assumption that she is competent- something you wouldn't do to a walk up or phone in customer without questioning first yes? You've been in the trade long enough to deal with customers with just enough knowledge to be dangerous and others who are entirely clueless so without knowing where she is on the scale Kaz has made a reasonable call.

So you don't think she might have heard of mechanics, and that known she might have to go see one eventually, but that she just thought she would ask in here first ? And you don't perhaps think that she would know when she'd reached the limits of her abilities ?
Some of you seem to think that you can somehow miraculously decide who's capable of doing what, and who's completely stupid and incapable of doing even the simplest things.
I'd rather suspect that if it had been a Mr K, people might have answered a little bit differently myself.
What is really funny, is that these same people think that I'm egotistical and arrogant.

Oh lol. too funny. Now I see it's ok to recommend someone starts working on their electrical machinery. no questions asked.
But I guess that will be ok, since it's going to be a man doing the tutu.

About damsels in distress . Not trying to make this a gender issue but male v female thinking and logic differ. ,Womens logic or lack of proves to be the daunting task at hand that should be considered .It will be the set back from the get go.Simple task for mere male -checking water for example. She has the ability but if she can only decipher the symbol on the caps .The window wash can be mistaken for the coolant bottle or the transmission dipstick for the engine oil ie ,one maybe a yellow ring pull ring the other a red pull ring the colouring having no meaning at all except the brain will process next time through auto repetition that one is designated for engine the other for transmission she has found out by mistake. .You'd be suprised !with the "Oh silly me" she gives a wink and a smile despite the car is now a bomb . We can't assume all women know every thing. And the male gender will go mad trying to explain the "how to" . Just to empower their gender issues . let clever google do that for them or at least they read the hand book first on the vehicle in question the rest leave it to the competent ones ;-) some men are worse than women .

It's true that men and women think differently, but you know what, I found out forty years ago. that women are far better customers. Women are more observant and notice the new noise or symptom months before the hubby notices. Women listen and ask questions without embarresment, and they treat their cars better. A man jumps in, turns the key and shoves it into gear as often as not. Women get in, look at the gauges, check the handbrake and the gearshift, turn the key and have another look around, do up their seatbelt, push the clutch right in then carefully put them into gear. If a couple come along to drop the car off and the man already knows what he's going to tell you, he tosses you the keys and gives you the instructions and asks when they can pick it up. The women are happy to stay and discuss it, mention their observations, ask questions, explain what their financual or family situation is,and asks if it's possible to work around those issues. which is helpful. And as I've said, it's the women that notice and worry about that noise which the man is ready to ignore till the wheel's falling off. seriously. Women seem to realise that cars are big and fast and potentially dangerous and they treat them with respect. Men are just gungho about booking them in, getting them repaired and driving them.
I've been working with the women of the families, and single women, for years and years and years. and there's no doubt at all in my mind who keeps their cars in better condition, who takes more care, who's more communicative and who's the one to spot the problems first. If you give instructions to a women about some observations they need to make about the problem, or special care, they will ask questions and make sure they understand. men. no way, it's just yeah yeah I'll do that, then next time you see them they hadn't taken the care, they hadn't listened carefully for the noise or symptom. Basically, men are a bunch of smarties that don't think they need to listen because they already know it all. Generalising, as we all do in here all the time. but those are my observations over many many years of working for my regular customers and casual ones.
Sorry to say it guys, (because I am a guy), but women are smarter. wiser.
To dismiss them out of hand (without even taking the time to speak to them as we have seen here) because they are women, is just absolutely arrogant. and stupid.

I think that woman are just as capable as men, they just can be socialised to think that they are not.
Checking the water isn't going to be so serious. We are not asking her to remove the cylinder head or anything!

On the up side for men, generalsing of course, we think physically, we think in three dimensions and understand concepts involving time and space interactions. which means we understand the physical workings of pistons and cranks and gears and stuff like that. We, well some of us, seem to understand electricity, and hydraulics, and friction and the characturistics of materials, which is helpful when it comes time to get things apart and back again, and making diagnosis. And these things for sure do help us understand what it is we are hearing or working with. But women as customers don't really need to understand these things, and they don't generally claim to, but men, they have trouble listening and thinking and sharing in the nurturing and caring way women do, and that's to their disadvantage both as car owners and as customers.
For sure men and women are different, but neither is so superior that they should dismiss the other because of those differences. Everybody should be encouraged. everybody should be nurtured. Women know that, men, to our shame, neglect it too often.

typical how women are is the Tv add about the refrigerator. When every man would be over the moon . that's exactly how women react. I was surprised the add was not already pulled by feminist thugs. now why is this. Because women think different. the basic instinct can not be changed no matter how much laws you make. We are a animal called Homosapian

#55 I think you will find women today are a different species than say 40 years ago ! My observation is they are the biggest complainers ie No respect , handbag slapped straight on top of the handbrake lever for easy reach goto for on the go for face makeup applied whilst driving., mobile ph in lap, diamond ring scratching the wing mirrors on frosty mornings.Ive had roof linings inside my car kicked out with high heel boots, head units kicked out ,they don't care for the interior furniture ,less anything else. They are destructive ,rude ,don't care ,drive like they own the road and all the while loving it.They simply don't care.Like wild cats, decorate their cars with senseless flowery ,wobbly items to the extreme that distract. There seems no limit and no shame. lol

Ha. You should have taken the high heels off them before you started. Or told them they're on top.

It really is serious when a few in a million cant understand warning lights and drive on .Iv'e asked a few how long has the buzzer or warning lights been on ,and had replies like,oh a few weeks now and one said ohwell you won't have to drain the oil then!. With stuff all oil or water in the system. No cooling at all cause the there was no steam thereafter assuming its still all go .untill the engine cooks ,smelling +smoking burnt oil then they do stop and do something like ring someone who cares.all engines ideally need to totally shut down on low oil and water.

Insurance covered that one lucky I couldn't wait and she couldn't get em off! ,it was a long piece lining in a wagon! those things I cant repair and I'm hopeless with fabric ok but a head unit I can toss and get another .

Ha. men are no better. I've been to fix a commercial fishing boat that wouldn't start and we found the batteries were flat and when I got it going and checked the gauges and noticed the amp meter wasn't showing any charge and told the guy, there's your problem, no charge, he reckoned, "No, that gauge doesn't work. It stopped working a few weeks ago".

No we are all human beings! The female brain is wired differently from the male brain .What your trying to say in a nice way that all women are evil by default since eve mislead adam .Eve was told not to touch the forbidden fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil or in absolute terms of + and - or good and bad ,superior or inferior etc .Folk lore has it that a serpent deceived Eve into eating fruit from the forbidden tree, and she gives some of the fruit to Adam. These acts give them additional knowledge, but it gives them the ability to conjure negative and destructive concepts such as shame and evil. God later curses the serpent and the ground. God prophetically tells the woman and the man what will be the consequences of their sin of disobeying God. Then he banishes them from the Garden of Eden. So we are all left with an ability to choose anyway whether it is right or wrong.right decisions or wrong. So the story goes.
