Can I reject both of my near new, 9 month old cars

Page 6 / 8
kazbanz, Mar 23, 6:30am
Well B%%% me. Learn summat every day.
In fairness though--This is noted as being a problem with the model. Ie its not normal and Ford is being "chased" for a reasonable solution

kazbanz, Mar 23, 6:34am
Thinking about this situation a bit.
Unless the vehicles concerned are diesel I cannot imagine a scenario where just 200km after an oil /filter change a near new car engine would turn the oil black. -UNLESS a LOT of the oil was still inside the engine

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:34am
Not at this point, thinking perhaps when she has done 1000 on this oil, perhaps i should. A holden chap i was talking to, suggested allied where i usually get my oil could probally test it?

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:36am
Lol.
You missed mentioning filling filter with oil first, as i do though.

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:39am
Please explain, the photos are as they are said to be, and can be verified by neighbors' talked to while doing change. (one of those is the retired head of design and production, for the old PDL industries, and no fool).

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:40am
? who sells leaded petrol.
No additives have ever been put in fuel or oil by me.

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:44am
Nope, great wee car(spark lt), at the $14k i paid brand new(+1k extras), hence stocking up on filters for the future oil changes. But yes i would rather they took it and the other dearer one back(astra rsv), as i can no longer trust them to do required serving, and i had hoped to no longer need to do my own servicing.
Going to have a chap with a workshop i deal with, to see if they will take on servicing of the astra, so as no arguments for warranty issues if any arise, should i end up keeping them.

gpg58, Mar 23, 6:48am
Perhaps correct in hindsight, however shown them what, demanded they drain it and examine it? or do you consider a darker dipstick stain would be enough for them to agree?

tygertung, Mar 23, 6:52am
What I sometimes do when I do an oil change is to remove the plug from the distributor so that it won't start, and crank it over on the starter motor until the oil light goes out. Then I connect the dizzy back up and away she goes.

gpg58, Mar 23, 7:01am
Yes i too like to drain for a good period, (unless i owned a ranger), and as said, i run a liter+ of clean oil thru while draining(and still hot) as well.

It was said that the drain stand was under the vehicle, for what appeared to him, to be the usual amount of time, from workshop camera review.

When i recently sold my 2013 navara, at 67,000km the buyer(dealer) and his mechanic, said it was the quietest running one they had heard, so i believe doing a little more than the average oil change, can be a benefit.(i got 23k cash for it, from a large dealer, and they needed to repaint 2 panels as well- gate whoops)

jmma, Mar 23, 7:10am
You said your tailpipe was a nice grey, that went out with unleaded petrol, It was the lead that caused the grey. Pipes are black now!

gpg58, Mar 23, 7:12am
Ok will have another look, but was just normal looking to my eye.
Will take a picture.
The astra is black, but not sooty, but with only less than 3000 on it i expect it will get less so in time? The spark does seem lighter coloured, hence saying grey(light grey was possibly a little over said, to avoid stuffed rings comments, - not at all oily)

Off out now, thanks everyone, for your input.

gazzat22, Mar 23, 7:24am
After only a few k,s 2-300 the oil should be just about like new.By changing the oil yourself you,ve lost a lot of your argument.Presumably they did change the oil and filter as you said it wasnt due till 15000ks not 12000.!

andy61, Mar 23, 11:55am
A lot of Rangers had the oil pump changed out under warranty with an `improved updated `pump, someone I know took his Ranger to the agents for an oil change, the serviceman had to turn the engine off after the oil pressure light didnt go out after changing the oil, it stayed there overnight while they changed out the oil pump. Very common! but I think the newer 3.2 have a different pump now.

gph1961, Mar 23, 12:42pm
changed out. my pet hate terminology grinds my gears

gpg58, Mar 23, 3:55pm
Re exhaust colour, ok it could be called black in some lighting conditions
https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1511682927.jpg Or grey in others. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1511683058.jpg
Astra after a 300+km open road run, is similar now.

Have talked to owner of workshop i deal with, (agrees oil doesn't appear to have been changed), and he is happy to take over future servicing of both, which will be done to factory requirements, as are all vehicles they work on.

They will be doing the reservice at 1000kms since i changed it myself, and preforming the full 15,000 service at that same time, which in my opinion was not done, in the 25 minutes they had it, before i got a text that it was ready to pick up. Will cost me money above the free servicing i paid for with the cars, but better safe than sorry later.

Would be interesting if an industry watchdog, audited dealers purchase records, to see if oil and filters purchases aligned with services done reasonably accurately(one would expect more than needed with some allowance for some wastage), to show if this is widespread, or i am just unlikely.
Now at 540kms since, oil remains clean, and fuel consumption at the reduced 5.6/100

Ok, lets leave it for now, unless there is something to update.
Thanks everyone.

gph1961, Mar 24, 3:43am
peace be on you now brother

peanuts37, Mar 24, 2:22pm
Is that rust forming on muffler?

gph1961, Mar 24, 2:33pm
wasnt going to mention that as he is calm now(sedated)

gpg58, Mar 24, 3:51pm
I was thinking the same, but decided not to mention it either.

A neighbour was telling me about a recent fairgo item, re a 6 year old holden motor being totally shagged, and there was an argument about servicing, so have just forwarded my info to them, probally not interested, but worth a crack.

peanuts37, Mar 24, 7:38pm
Just an observation of mine. Ive got a 2016 Honda Jazz and exhaust is stainless steel end to end.

bill-robinson, Mar 25, 4:42am
you can do what ever you want with your cars, however the other party may offer a different use for them. good luck and let us know how you get on.

kazbanz, Mar 25, 5:06am
I hear you--I guess my point being that its noted as being an issue with the vehicle.

kazbanz, Mar 25, 5:19am
Thats not right on a fair few fronts.
The issue was the TRANSMISSION failed. The vehicle was a Ford AND the vehicle was outside of any possible cover under the CGA or warranty. There was also a missing transmission service that mysteriously appeared when FG got involved. -Frankly FG bullied to get cover the owner was not entitled to.
In YOUR case as per my earlier post. Your two "Holdens" are not due to be serviced until 15000km. So any argument re theoretical longevity becomes moot until after that service is carried out on schedule. (or not which is what you suspect will happen)

gpg58, Mar 25, 10:43am
Thankyou, did not see it myself, seems she has got that wrong then.

Again i do not think a fixed mileage or age is the correct approach to servicing, when the designers of the engine management have gone to the trouble of including a monitor, which decides when the oil needs changing, based on usage as well age and mileage, and it was on.
Approaching 1000kms later now, oil still clean, now thinking may leave reservice(do/redo full 15000 service) until she does hit 15000, which is 2000+ away, and see how it looks then. - remember they signed it off as having been done.
