Actually FWD cars ARE my buzz! I have a '93 Celica and am looking at putting a redtop BEAMS engine into it soon.

It just never made sense to me why you would take a high compression engine with lightened internals which is MADE for high revving, then lower the compression, put heavier internals on it to cope with the extra power and chuck a turbo on it. To me it's like those guys who lower the holy hell out of their utes, put huge rims on it and shave the doors, thereby totally destroying the original purpose of the vehicle. You might as well just start with a motor which original purpose was to be turboed. I don't know, I guess people just like doing it the hard way and spending a lot more of their hard earned $$$! Each to their own I guess.

moosie_21, Oct 16, 12:23am
Yup, got that right

vtecnet, Oct 16, 12:38am
Yeah I agree with you really, my Turbo CRX uses a lower compression Non vtec engine with 9.5-1 Compression, rather then a Vtec with 10.6-1 Compression, its handled making 2x stock power for 5 years now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch!v=SMux8Xv6MLg heres a vid of my CRX, not really revving it out as such, as you can see it pulls well in the lower RPM compared to a NA Vtec.

Each to there own .Now thats somthing i can relate to,In saying that i obviously had miss read you so yeah i do understand where you are coming from but i also am a fan of +T setups on hondas only because its the easiest ways to make a good power number from them and they do respond to turbocharging quite well as long as its setup for a high rev range. But obviously you only get what you pay for when modifying a motor .
PS the N/A hondas are fun as to drive to love em high revving vtecs

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 12:41am
good example of a responsible turbo upgrade not OTT as most are lol

vtecnet, Oct 16, 12:50am
Yeah, only uses a small turbo, VF-10 from an 89 Legacy, as that's all it needs, some people insist on putting T3/T4's on everything.

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 12:58am
out of interest what power is it making!

moosie_21, Oct 16, 1:00am
haha all good. Yeah my mates in the middle of putting a turbo on an Altezza Beams and chucking it into his KE20. Should be quite good having a 300hp+ engine in a car lighter than a ton!

vtecnet, Oct 16, 2:18am
200hp at wheels , cars 890kg + driver

lazz323, Oct 16, 8:03am
LOL :P classic :D , my mate just brought a beams turbo from a dealership 3 days of boosting , internals MELTED =/ good way to spend 20+k and now dealership refuse to pay out lol. using t/3 t/4 turbo setup chiped ecu, (stock internals =/)

lazz323, Oct 16, 8:07am
well anyway, ill be looking to complete the inlet / outlet setup and getting a exhaust system, got my eyes on a HKS silent hi flow system (2.38") - (slightly dented res, i assume wont affect performance) getting fed from my jasma 4-2-1 headers )TASTY( =)

scotty20001, Oct 16, 9:14am
bahahaha i needed a laugh good on ya rice boy.

vtecnet, Oct 16, 9:24am
Legally the Dealership has to help with issues, within the 1st 90 days on a Class D vehicle.

thegravelracer, Oct 16, 9:53am
bahahahaha laughs on you tho commonwhore lol

lazz323, Oct 17, 9:24am
bump to contine the argument :p

bellky, Oct 17, 7:48pm
i'm not sure about better (build!) quality. but they're definitely faster

ninja_man, Oct 17, 7:53pm
the jap cars are faster and better quality. aussie cars are cheaply made with bits always falling off them

johnf_456, Oct 17, 8:16pm
He is far from been a rice boy, gosh just why why

richardmayes, Oct 17, 11:36pm
Use the Supercharger off a V6 Commodore!

One of those will give you about a horsepower.

jsbike, Oct 17, 11:49pm
Actually a supercharger might not be a bad idea, rather than using it to up the max HP, use it to boost it until vtec comes on song, so then you have power at high and low rpm. I'm working on a twin charge setup (turbo + supercharger) at the moment using an sc14 charger. Plan is that the SC will supply boost until around 2800-3200rpm, by which time the turbo will have come in and take over and the SC will be able to be disengaged.

moosie_21, Oct 18, 12:14am
That must be incredibly hard to work on having both setups.

trdbzr, Oct 18, 12:25am
Yep its a hard setup but its been done before. I remember a few years back a guy had done it on a FXGT. Few months later he blew the turbo.

jsbike, Oct 18, 2:20am
Its not as bad as I 1st thought. I have fitted the SC on the engine in place of the air con pump. VW do some factory twin charge set ups, though my system is set up opposite to the VW system. My goal is NOT huge power (280-300kw atw), its just decent power across the rpm range.

foxdonut, Oct 18, 2:54am
That is huge power in a 4 pot Twincharged motor.

HKS had a kit for the 4AGE in the early 90's and there are some bodge jobs with open ecu's floating around, but they're generally pretty rough.

At the end of the day its a major undertaking. You'd be better off with a buick V6 SC (seriously).

jsbike, Oct 18, 4:13am
I should be more specific, im doing this on an rb25det neo engine, not a a little 4 cylinder.

The SC14 SC im using is too small for for anything much larger than 2.5L normally, but seeing its only needing to supply boost until the the turbo comes it, it's fine. I worked out the SC will be doing roughly 8000rpm when the turbo comes in to take over, this is well short of the SC's 12,000rpm limit. I have seen that HKS bolt on kit in an Ozzy write up on a Levin, the kit was something crazy like $5500 new
