The car I purchased last month had a new WOF (1 week old)and registration runs out Feb and I was happy with that considering the price I paid.If not happy with deal go elsewhere.

Do you go into Bunnings or your local supermarket and crunch the price! No is the answer, so why do you all think that car dealers should bend and buckle. Dealers have huge overheads to pay but you wouldn't know anything about that!just be very careful that the car you are intending to buy is not an old stocker. there is always a reason why a dealer will drop his price so remember that. people like you deserve to end up with a rebuilt lemon that will give you years of grief!

Of course and they actively incourage that with their promises to undercut everyone else. If you dont ask, you don't get. Car yards are a rip off and any one that buys a car off them is a mug when the same vehicles are so much cheaper privately.

Go troll

carstauranga001, Jan 15, 8:35pm
My way of doing things is to have the car ready for delivery. So if an out of town buyer wants to buy on Sat/Sun or after hours the car is ready. Strike while the iron is hot too. We all know from this forum alone that most of NZ think they are a "car expert". Whilst your butcher who lives next door means well he can stuff your deal with what is usually just an opinion. Once the car is in the driveway the butcher or what ever he is won't get to sway the buyer to what he might prefer to drive.

Edit, THe rubbish owene wrote above is an example. I bet owene has cost a few dealers some busines when all they're trying to do is an honest deal and make a living.

OP that dealer should of shaken your hand off for the offer of 12k on an 01 VX done 145k, can't believe he counter offered considering that unit has had a birthday.

kazbanz, Jan 15, 8:43pm
Well thar ya go mate--theres a way we are different.I prefer mine to be delivered with a new rego and wof every time.--But then I have testing stations within 7km open 7 days a week tillat least 3.00pm which means out of towners are able to be catered for.Worst case senario I've discounted the price $300 and sent the customer on their way with The MR2a,4 screws,my dealer plate and a courier bag.

In some cases yes, but I have also seen many cars being sold privately that are priced similar to or even more expensive than what dealers want for the same cars. IMO many dealers that go under is due to them not being competitive, they put sky high prices on their stock, give barely any discount and still expect to stay in business.

KdcI can with the utmost confidence say that the salesman/dealer was just doing his job.
Unfortunately it would apear that the OP isn't a person comfortable with the negotiation process.
Car wasSay $5000customer offers $4000salesman counter offers with $4300.So the customer then says Yes/NO and counter offers--even if its their origonal figure.

Sweet as Kaz, that 00-04 stuff will firm in value as well now, can't see any discounting in that range especially with good k's.

Who buys cars from dealers these days!! Do you like paying 20% more than you have to for a car!!

owene, Jan 16, 3:48am
Is that your answer to anyone that you disagree with!

tonyrockyhorror, Jan 16, 4:01am
What screwed up logic you have exhibited here.

owene, Jan 16, 4:51am
Typical logic of most car buyers - which is why the dealers are able to can them in the first place!

gunhand, Jan 16, 4:53am
Where do you buy your cars! Turners!

kazbanz, Jan 16, 5:49am
ActualyI see a bit of a fire sale in a month or so time--when overextended dealers need to pay the bank back--Just quietly
Im already seeing the normal flood of folks looking to buy son/daughter the car for uni etc. They want a $6000 car andaint having much luck
