Choice, If ur able to, can you also get a picture of the drive shaft linkage to the box! If it is a simple 4 bolt connection then it may be worth putting the engine in the Trumpy instead of rebuilding this one ( pluss added reliability and fuel injection :P

you would have to get the VN driveshaft cut down and your TC rear yoke welded on. last driveshaft i had done cost $280 with new HD universals and balanced.

Any motor putting out big power such as most mid size v6's or even small v8's means the body will have to be stiffened.
Of course brakes & suspension will also need swapping for something a lot better.
Way back in the "'good ol days" it was common when modding small cars like Hunters etc, to transplant the suspension beam from a Superminx

There was a 2500TC with a 3 litre Holden/Nissan engine in it for sale on here a year of so ago. The gear lever came up thru a hole on the floor somewhere down by the handbrake but other than that it looked like quite a nice job.

Not a surprise at all.
The Triumph engine is a very short block compared to a lot of other straight 6 engines.
Looked at a holden black engine transplant my self a few years ago but found a replacement engine just in time.
The Nissan engine probably would have been a better fit

Already seen what a std 350 chev does to a Hunter body, poor bugger had a lot of problems with the doors jamming.

knew a guy many years ago that put a 400 small block chev into a TC, and from memory he had it all under the hood. I think a good front end for the hillman hunter would be an L300. Complete subframe bolts out, also the option of powersteering, the van springs would probably be fine as is, and five stud rotors and better brakes. then just fit a shortened borg warner or nine inch. And have matching five stud alround. you will also need a driveshaft hoop, and get your mounts fabricated by a certified engineer and you should fly thru cert. process.

we did a whole lot of repowers in our younger years, mostly escorts, cortinas and capris.most bodies withstood the extra torque, but we usually seam welded the engine bay completely,and added a few extra welds around the rear suspension mounting points. we put a bolt in 6 point rollcage in one V8 manual hatchback capri, but it still managed to twist the body enough while launchinghard to pop the bonnet catch, lucky it had a twin tunnel ram size hole in the bonnet to enable visibility so i could safely guide it to the side of the road with the bonnet bent over the roof.

For many years in the 1990s-2000 around Masterton there was a Brown V8 powered 1972c Hillman Hunter that was regularly serviced by Nicks Auto Services - Go and ask some of the mechanics there - Nick himself is still around -what was in it! -If memory serves me right is was Ford V8 Powered:)
As for using the Humber Sceptre this would be an ideal project as in 1966-1967 Rootes who owned Humber for most of its life builtan experimental Humber Scepre with a 289ci Ford V8 that was also used by them to power the Sunbeam Tiger and installed by Jensen Motor Co

yeah that one was a high revving high horsepower 347 cubic inch Boss with a nitrous kit. went very well in a tubbed capri, it went well with a single carb in a falcon too.

I run two classic race series and we allow a limited number of cars with engine transplants - but to quite specific criteria.

The Nissan powered Triumph for example, is not eligible (and I saw it yesterday, untouched in recent weeks as the owner doesn't seem inclined to pay the bills.Twink's Escort with a great race history was on the lift.).If it was repowered by any European pre 1977 classic engine, then it could probably race with us - much to the disgust of the purists of course.

I realise that a modern Lexus V8 may well be a great choice, but you have to first of all accept that the reasons for doing a repower are varied.

If the intention is a cool road car, that is fine.If the intention is to do Targa, then it has to conform to their rules - particularly cages etc.If it is to be raced, then first of all, you need to decide what class of racing you are aiming for and whether or not it is acceptable.What may not be acceptable at a 'Classic' meeting, may well be welcomed at a club meeting.

It appears that the OP is not aiming for a competition car, so it his choice entirely as to whether he wants a show car, a Q car or just to exercise a bit of mechanical diversity - and enjoy it.

the masterton car was Ford V6 powered it was a dog !to much weight over the front wheels! id go for a Rover v8 which probably would be about the same weight as the 1725 in it! should be easyto fit in one of those!

I agree with some of the other posters.
Toyota 4AGE or 4AGZE.
Light, economical, parts are cheap and easy to come by.
Plenty of room in the engine bay so repairs and servicing would still be simple.
Around double the output of the original engine, but smaller in capacity and more economical (and more reliable no doubt).
Thats my 2c worth anyway;)

Totally agree.
Modern 4cyl would also create less hassles with mods & certs.
