An SR20 of some sort would be the go wouldn't it!

morrisman1, Apr 7, 7:55am
It would be much cheaper to go down the v8 route I suspect, maybe a nissan v8, with the auto box. A hell of a lot cheaper than putting an SR20DET in, purely because SR20DET command such a high price especially in RWD form.

Dreams are free

Rover V8!
Honda F20c!
RB26DETT!
Dodge Viper engine!

had a 13b turbo in a viva once, that thing was nuts, now the jappa stage is over though, would look along the lines perhaps a 2.0 cosworth would be the bizzo

Lots of other inspiration on this site!

Shoehorn a lexus V8 into the old tart!

stevo2, Apr 7, 8:10am
Your Hunter is a 67 model that would probably have the 1600cc engine. The Rover 3500V8 is a reasonably popular conversion.
Cheers Stevo

lexus, 540 BMW plenty of cheap options

pge, Apr 7, 8:23am
I thought there were only the 1725cc units out here, although the 1496cc was the "economy" model in U.K. !

Was in Pick-a-part Rosedale yesterday, there was a red four-headlight (Humber Sceptre!) one in there, body looked pretty good, still four doors, no bonnet or boot, shame to have been wrecked.

V6 commodore motor, just so happens i have a whole VN car, drive away for $400. damn, you are in chch

petermcg, Apr 7, 8:29am
Holden V6 may be OK but best choice would be alloy V8 of some description

quickstitch, Apr 7, 8:33am
adapting a motor in is the easy part, it is finding an easy brake upgrade that will be a problem, i can't think of a bolt on brake upgrade for a hillman grunter.

m16d, Apr 7, 8:48am
O my god. a Hilboy Grunter. brings back memories.

At last, a vote for commonsense. Start with looking at what all the running gear will cope with and identify those limits. That may mean that you may need to limit your choice of power - unless you are prepared to invest a lot of time and effort to do the job properly.

By the way, if anyone hasa set of the Hunter/Sceptre oblong rear lights (with chrome surrounds), I'd like some spares!
