average 10.5 L/100km in my VS Supercharged V6 Auto, Napier to Hastings weekdays and around town running on lunch hours/weekends, around 400 - 500km a week. Comfy, quiet and quick, got told I was an idiot for buying such a thirsty car, ive driven much smaller (and useless for just about everything) cars that give similar economy. even my late fathers VE V6 cant touch the VS for performance or economy which is a shame because I wouldnt have minded replacing it with a VE Calais V.

My 3.0 manual VL will be lucky to scrape into the 13 - 14L/100km area doing the same work

And the GTX with the 440 and 5 speed id say it'd be a case of L per Km and not Km per L!

My 1.5 manual honda fit gets 16k/l around town.
Today I filled it after doing 605k and put in 37l.
I always fill it until the petrol, not foam, is at the top of the filler neck.

All this "per tank" talk is just weird. Seems to me a lot of people don't know how much their car actually uses (in any comparable way).

Which is fine if you don't care. except posting the detail here implies that you do care.

1983 Sunny : 7.6L/100Km or 13.15Km/L around town.
I must note however, that its not running 100% at the moment and I normally see around 7L/100Km or better.
Low 6s' if I drive like a nana.

70 litres. Found it on a site.

timmo1, Apr 5, 2:13am
I get about 8 or 9 L/100Km of mostly urban driving. That equates to between 480- 550km per tank which is 48L ( It usually takes around 40-45L each fill)
98 MX5.a bag of fun. What's not to like.

Well you've still not really offered any info on how many k's you're doing, so it's anyone's guess as to what your consumption is. Some assumptions could be made using the manufacturers claimed consumption, but the result of that is likely to show that you're better off keeping the camry (if all you're trying to do is reduce your fuel bill).

batman4321, Apr 5, 2:30am
I bought my car in January 2009. At that time, the KMs was 180KM, Now the KMs is 220KM. I have chalked up 40,000 KMs in 3 years and 3 months.

40,000kms / 168 weeks (3 years and 3 months) = 238kms per week travelled.

Blah. I like my car. Its a poor man's "rich car". I wish my hour wage was higher so I could afford more in life and not have to eek through it.

EB2 Fairmont V8 15L/100km mostly urban.Drive it mostly in the weekend. Will do 10L/100km highway if driven nicely but I don't travel much.

RAV4 does 11L/100km around town.Driven 5 days a week, wish I never had to drive it LOL/

Wife's Orthia does 10L/100km around town.Driven 5 days a week normally.

All up we spend around $100 per week on petrol.

That's low to average k's. At that rate you'd have to be buying a car with MUCH lower consumption to make it worthwhile. Even then.

So if you do what most people do when they change car, and buy newer/more expensive than what they sell the other one for, you're unlikely to get ahead on the deal any time soon, if ever.

For example, say you're doing 9//100km (I didn't work it out, I'm guessing), you're spending about $2400 on petrol a year.

Replace that car with a little miser, and do 6l/100km, you'll save $800 a year on gas. Cool.

But will that 6l/100km car meet your needs! (i.e. it will be a lot smaller than the camry).

And how much would you spend in the change over! Even if you only spend $5k more on the new car than you sell the camry for, it'll take over 6 years to recoup your costs.

2 people I know drive a VW Golf and Passat. I think the "grass is greener" but their car isn't as spacious/roomy/comfy as mine.

My wifes 2006 Mazda Axela 2.0 litre 5 speed auto did 41 mpg (6.8l/100km) from Christchurch to Dunedin, used 23.5 litres ie under half a tank. Dunedin to Chch (365k's) was 39mpg including 300kms buzzing around Chch (665k's total). Very economical, confortable and goes good when you start to peddle it.

Through the peek of summer I will be putting more then $200 per week into my van to tow the boat to the sea lol and yes it get's great eco for a vehicle with the areo dinamics of a brick runing a V8 and towing a 5m GOP boat.

lol.the camry - the most mundane car ever, being rated by a user as superior to jazz's favourites!

1999 Subaru Legacy, B4 twin turbo. 360k to a tank.
It doesn't matter if I drive carefully, or have fun, I always get around 360k.
I'm also running full boost on the primary turbo, rather than only 10 psi or so, that only dropped my fuel economy by 20k, so it's worth it.

outbidyou2, Apr 5, 6:41am
AU2 Falcon, $115 to fill, must be around 450-500kms a tank
