Thinking about it now many years back before cell phones and the interweb I had a 68 Stang I strippd and painted etc etc and apart from needing new carpets it was all and all a very tidy car.
So as I had had enough of its ill handling (yes tried to have it sorted, but turned out there all like that) and lack of weather resistance and just that the fact I went through cars like, ummmmm, alot anyway.
So anyway I found a nice V8 XD Giha and decided this was me.
Now as the dealer said to me," Noone wants Mustangs at the mo mate, but if it was a Camaro. So we settled on a price. I said to him, "I dont want to see this on the yard for a lot more than you just paid me for it""No we will be lucky to break even BLAH BLAH" .And yes I understand they have to make a reasonable profit to survive, BUT.
Well they put carpets in it and put "alot" more than the trade value on it and when it sold for cash they didnt budge a $1.I know I spoke the new owner as I had parts etc for it.
TM and the internet have done alot to check real values and have made the world a very small place and I guess thats why you can not get that GTHO off granny for $200 just to get it out of her way anymore.

Mainly a trust thing, don't get me wrong I'm not saying all dealers are blood sucking monsters wtih comb overs etc I just don't like being pressured into a sale etc. Again I know a lot of dealers will give you all the space in the world and the lads at my local motorcycle dealership are great, show you whats on offer, leave you alone afterwards and then get the keys when you ask for a ride.

As for what I want to buy, I doubt most Auckland dealers have what I want. Last time I asked where the Austins and Morris's were kept the bloke just laughed.
