Funny, those words I used were a direct quote from the OP, half way down his first paragraph. Does not detract from the rest of pertinent questions you asked

all good--I read both posts and the first said one thing the second another.

LOL Jazz, sorry to say it but you have auto failed the "Attitude test" with that posting.
Seriously, If I was a cop & you spouted that to me after I pulled you up, then I would be very wary & nervous of the entire situation. I would make sure I got EVERYTHING right & nailed You for anything clearly legit wrong, that I could get you for. No second chances or ignoring the smaller stuff for smart ar$s3 mouths.
Dude, loosen up a bit, life doesn't need to be that stressful.

A percentage wrong/ right based on the total number of police members & the total number of "jobs/call outs" would be more enlightening.

I wonder if the well known doctor down in CHCH that got done for sexually violating female patients should have just said he'd been a doctor for 40 odd years, that means say a thousand patients a year, so 40,000 patients and only 5 or 6 complained, so statistically it's a non event?
the-lada-dude,

Ah yes, . the old game of manipulating figures and statistics to suit a situation . and you know the police have a full time anaiist to do just this . go figure eh !

Nope--they are employed to figure out the most effective distribution of the "thin blue line" The best way to reduce crime in NZ.

sounds like ACC & the mediation service, the same people answer the phones for both & run out of the same building

I think you miss the point.
Cops actively utilise this myth as a compliance tool. In other words they abuse citizens courteousness as an excuse to get away with things they are not allowed to, plus use it as a means of not getting any resistance to unfair treatment.
I have seen it myself on more than one occasion.
It's the Polices JOB to apply the law equally and professionally. They are NOT a judge. Black/White, Friendly/Unfriendly, Male/Female. everyone is supposed to get exactly the same treatment.
If they are unable to do that, they have no business being in the profession. Policing is a hard job, some members of the public will be nasty, but that doesn't mean it's OK to flout the rules.
Lastly. failing the attitude test doesn't necessarily mean being nasty or hostile. Police seem to take any questioning of their actions as a "fail" that is the real issue here. This can include offering an explanation of your actions, which is often unappreciated as it can hinder the legitimacy of their ticketing you.
I have been pulled up dropping a vehicle to a WOF station before and met with all sorts of stupid face pulling, eye rolling and juvenile noises when I have mentioned this. Despite being perfectly calm, polite and freindly. In this instance the cop was just fully intent on getting his ticket issued. He was not at all interested in resolving the issue by my calling the WOF place where it was booked in, showing him the replaced parts on the seat next to me or the fail sheet. It was clearly just about getting his points for the traffic stop. They give you no option but to waste your time appealing through the system and also wasting police time processing the appeal. Stupid when it could be resolved in a few seconds on the side of the road. But clearly that doesn't give them the points they need in their check box's.

Which cops are you talking about? Name&ashamed them.
The ones that have stopped me were a cheery lot and quite polite ( in an informal way) even when writing out a ticket.

Obviously he cant name them on a public forum, but they know who they are!

"They are NOT a judge. " Until you want them to be, take your excuse to the judge and let him decide

Most likely jazz's attitude which the police no doubt pick up on is probably why he's so damn negative, almost like he looks for any excuse to be negative. Negative attitude is easy to spot if one is inclined that way.

Now that's never a good idea, that's how you get stalked and targeted sadly.
It varies from area to area. There are a few great cops out there still but also some absolute shockers. If you want to pick an area, Waikato seem to have some of the nastiest road Police, but my sample is probably way too small to be statistically useful.
I have encountered some great ones too, it's just the ratio of good/bad isn't anywhere near what it should be.

Not agreeing with corruption = being negative.
mrfxit,
Sep 26, 4:49pm
How the heck does being polite, cheerful & helpful, get you stalked and targeted?
In over 40 years of driving, it's never failed me yet regardless of why I have been stopped.
ema1,
Sep 26, 6:47pm
Me neither mrfxit. Probably being obnoxious to the police like he shows often he can be on here regarding his ideas being the only ones that matter and dismissing everyone else in sundry whom he thinks know diddly squat including police etc. If he can't get on with police ( there are exceptions but they are few) and the laws of this country he can expect them to rub him up the wrong way similar to what he experiences from folks that rub him up the wrong way in here. I don't think he knows the meaning of "Put Up & Shutup." and or "Keep Your Nose Clean." Always looking for fault in anything/anybody that doesn't agree with his "damned if I know what I'd call it. " agenda which extends beyond his Euro Cars Or Nothing narrow mindedness. Sounds a bit like laws are made for "The Rest Of Us." but he's unique and should have rules and laws pertaining purely to himself . He doesn't seem to recognize the fact that things just don't work that way . never did . never will. Buggered if I know why he gets his tits in a twist over authority and puts the majority of police in poor light when it's a relatively minor percentage that actually wear that mantle, they usually get weeded out in the end. Frankly in NZ there just isn't enough police to do all expected of them when their resources are stretched to the limit .and has been for an eternity. I don't think he's heard of the saying . "The thin blue line !" nor the fact that I and others reckon he doesn't even know the significance of that statement.

Addition to post #74. Suggestion perhaps he "jazz" would sign up with the police force rather than just "slag" them off wholesale on here. If he reckons he can do better than the police currently do why doesn't he front up and apply . either that or "Put Up And Shut The Hell Up ! " Hypocrite comes to mind here . resoundingly loud ! Nah he wouldn't have the guts , I doubt they would have him in their ranks full stop.

There could be points-where one RESPECTS the police
And there could be points where one KNOWS the police
ema1,
Sep 26, 7:17pm
Yo snoops . Knowing them and respecting them is advisable IMO. If you want respect then it should be given in return , I was taught that in my formative years, pity that isn't so prevalent these days. I was always taught to respect my elders as well and a lot of young uns don't know what respect is nor I would wonder if they have ever heard of the word. Some older ones who should know better need quite a reminder about respect one way or another, some more than others !
